If you thought that the Scorpion King 2 was enough to kill even the hardiest of movie careers, you were wrong. Randy Couture is a tough son of a bitch, and if losing to a green pro wrestler won’t stop him from fighting, why would playing an invisible scorpion with a redubbed voice stop him from acting some more?

But hey, I figured at least that was the end of Randy getting into big movies. Most direct-to-DVD stars never really escape that trap, but I didn’t take into the account that a bunch of them would gang up and create a movie together:

Ex-UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture has signed on for a major role in Sylvester Stallone’s next action project, titled The Expendables.

Couture joins a strong cast including action stars Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker. The $60 million feature centers on a group of mercenaries (Couture, Li, Staham and Stallone) sent to overthrow against a ruthless dictator. Whitaker plays an FBI agent in the film.

According to Couture’s agent Matt Walker, Couture’s role is a major one originally conceived for Wesley Snipes and rewritten for the former UFC champ.

This sounds like a C-level Inglorious Basterds, but I’ll end up going to see it anyways. Jet Li, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren have been dissapointing me for years with the shitty films they’ve been making but I can’t resist their goddamn movies. This is even after nearly slitting my wrists during the Transporter 3.

So I’m sure the big question on everyone’s mind is where does this film fit into the Natural’s fighting schedule? Stuff I’m reading makes it sound like things start filming in March in Brazil so unless the UFC figures something out for Randy soon I don’t think we’ll be seeing him fight again till the summer.
