Aside from a 10% possibility of redneck craftiness, no one is giving Matt Hughes much of a chance against Josh Koscheck. Matt’s old, he’s from another generation of UFC fighters, and he’s knocking on retirement’s door. This fight is the last on his current UFC contract, and he’s got pressure coming in from some interesting directions to hang ’em up:

“The outcome of this fight won’t really matter, to be honest,” he said today. “After this fight, win or lose, doesn’t matter, I’ll talk to the UFC and we’ll figure out what we want to do.”

While co-headliner Hughes said he continues to get enjoyment out of his career as a fighter, there are some close to him that don’t feel the same way.

“My wife tells me I’m done fighting,” he admitted.

Ah, the ever-supportive spouse. Where would MMA fighters be without them? Probably in a hot tub with Chuck Liddell and several women of questionable virtue, much happier without all the crippling doubt that comes from a loved one emoting via 1001 passive aggressive actions and statements that they don’t believe in you.

Fortunately, Matt Hughes is a man of God and takes his instruction from The Bible. Win or lose, I think Matt should ponder retirement on his own terms, remembering First Corinthians, chapter 11:3…

Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

Translation: STFU, ladies.
