The UFC wasn’t the only combat sport on TV last night that put on an exciting show. The fourth Manny Pacquiao / Juan Manuel Marquez fight was on afterwards and Marquez absolutely flattened Pacman with a brutal KO in the 6th round. Manny lay prone on the canvas for a long time with his wife screaming hysterically from ringside; it was a sobering moment in boxing history. It was also an opportunity for epic shoop lols:
More of those after the jump.
As for how this relates to MMA, this shows you what happens when two of the best pound for pound fighters in the world dick around and don’t manage to put together the biggest fight in the history of the sport. Make no mistake: the Pacquiao vs Mayweather superfight (which was already lacking some luster after Manny’s loss to Thomas Bradley in June) is way past its best before date now. Even if the fight happens now, it will be remembered as a fight that happened several years too late.
Lorenzo Fertitta agrees and gives me hope that he understands you don’t dick around with sport-changing mega fights. You make that shit happen ASAP. And if there’s one thing 80s action movies have taught me, it’s when a powerful billionaire wants you to compete in a martial arts fight, he usually gets his way.
