Next week marks the UFC’s return from a three week mini-vacation with UFC on FUEL 9 in Sweden, headlined by hometown boy Alexander Gustafsson and Gegard Mousasi. Unfortunately, that fight is in jeopardy as Gustafsson suffered a bad cut above his eye in training and is now expected to pull out:

Reports indicate Gustafsson was cut in training and taken to the emergency room for treatment. The UFC light heavyweight was initially told his injury would take three to four weeks to properly heal. Doctors for the Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation (SMMAF), the regulatory body overseeing Saturday’s event, have also indicated it appears ‘unlikely’ ‘The Mauler’ would be healed in time to compete.

George Sallfeldt, the President of the SMMAF, indicated it would take a ‘miracle’ for the cut to heal quickly enough before Saturday.

Quick, someone harvest some baby stem cells or something and inject them right into Alex’s face! The fight hasn’t *officially* been cancelled yet but it certainly doesn’t look good. In fact, it looks about as terrible as terrible can be. Who is gonna wanna step up and face Gegard Mousasi in Europe on a week’s notice? I hope the Swedish are okay with Ross Pearson vs Ryan Couture being the new headline fight…
