Today is a sad day for shit talkers such as I, as it is the day we officially have to stop making fun of the names the UFC is giving to their Fox Sports events.
arieltweeterTemporarily labeled with whut-worthy names such as UFC on FOX Sports 1 1 and UFC on FOX Sports 2 1, these events will now become part of the old UFC Fight Night series. Last seen in 2011, the series label returns with UFC Fight Night 26: Shogun vs. Sonnen on August 17th. Or just UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs Sonnen for those without the number obsession us pro fans seem to have.

In other FOX Sports 1 news, it sounds like a lot of fans may have to deal with the same problems they had when the UFC moved a bunch of their content over to FUEL TV. SportsBusiness Daily reports:

A month before launching its much publicized all-sports network, Fox has yet to cut carriage deals with three of the country’s four biggest distributors, raising the possibility that its August launch of Fox Sports 1 will fall short of the 90 million homes the channel is expected to have.

DirecTV, Dish Network and Time Warner Cable — representing more than 46 million subscribers — still are negotiating to carry FS1 on Aug. 17, which is when Fox will turn its motorsports channel, Speed, into a multisport network.

The fact that so many deals are open a month before a network launch is not unusual in the cable industry. Typically, carriage deals like FS1’s get finalized in the days leading up to or just after a channel’s launch.

Let’s cross our fingers and hope the business side of things doesn’t fuck a bunch of fans out of being able to watch events legally. This is the problem with being such passionate fans in a highly valued demographic – we keep on getting shoved onto strange sub-channels to prop up ratings. MMA carried FUEL and you can see other guys like NBC Sports and CBS Sports picking up MMA promotions for the same reason.

If all it took was ordering a single channel it wouldn’t be too bad but half the time getting this shit involved upgrading to the ripoff package or changing your cable provider entirely. I hope no one who went that far just to get FUEL ends up on a network that doesn’t carry FOX Sports 1. Oh cable provider musical chairs. Just another reason why I can’t wait for everything to be internet based.
