Chris Leben chatted with MMA Mania and revealed he’s not in the best financial shape leading up to his December return against Karlos Vemola:

Yeah, I’m flat-out broke right now. Being broke sucks. It’s probably one of my biggest things where I just feel terrible. I feel terrible for having put my wife through so much and all because of the poor decisions that I’ve made. The year’s been hard. The year’s been a struggle. The only thing I can say is it’s already happened. It’s water under the bridge. The only thing I can do now is try to make sure it never happens again in the future and prepare for the future now.

That’s a pretty impressive feat for someone who’s been making over 30k/30k per fight for the past five years, not to mention undisclosed pay, sponsorship money, and several sweet fight and KO of the night awards. I guess it goes pretty quick though when you end up losing two years of your career to suspensions. Still, Chris has been with the UFC since 2005. Irresponsible spending habits aside, you’d hope the guy would be set for life by now.
