Rafael Carvalho made sure there would be no controversy this time around, flattening Alessio Sakara in the first round to defend his middleweight title Saturday at Bellator 190.

The event took place from the Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence, Italy, airing on Spike.

Last year, Carvalho (15-1) earned a split decision over Melvin Manhoef, forcing a rematch this past April that he won via a head-kick in the fourth round.

With Sakara’s countrymen cheering him on, he had no answer for the Brazilian, as Carvalho landed with an elbow and finished him with strikes in just 44 seconds.

In the co-main event, Brandon Girtz picked up a first round TKO victory over Luka Jelcic. The win was a much-needed one for the lightweight, as it snapped a three-fight losing skid.

Alejandra Lara upset Lena Ovchynnikova, securing a rear-naked choke in the third round, and Carlos Miranda defeated Mihail Nica via decision.

In the lone prelim bout, Gregory Babene picked up a first round submission with an armbar over Tony Zanko.
