You’d think after Chael Sonnen’s epic “Anderson Silva, you absolutely suck” burn and an earlier comment about patting Andy’s wife’s ass and having her cook him a steak, Anderson Silva would be all geared up to put a whooping on the West Linn gangster. Maybe he is. But one person that isn’t is Anderson’s manager. Here he was right after UFC 136:
It’s not because Chael says he wants to fight in February. Who is Chael to determine that? Chael needs to take a number and wait his turn. He got his opportunity, and he tapped. It’s not the first time he’s tapped, and I guarantee you it won’t be the last.
And then in this interview with Brazil’s SporTV:
Let’s see what the big boss is going to do. My opinion is that he had his chance and tapped, he should go back to the end of the line. The same thing is true with Vitor Belfort. They’re great fighters, but they had their chance. Sonnen would make a big fight, as would Dan Henderson and Georges St-Pierre, but we should recognize that Anderson only has around 4 fights left in his career.
Back of the line. Take a number. Not the kind of language that points towards Silva’s camp considering Chael the #1 contender. I don’t get these guys. Anderson is right on the edge of becoming a real PPV sales star, and he’s being a little bitch about a Chael Sonnen rematch? The UFC is setting up an opportunity for him to have one of the biggest PPVs of the year (and possibly the biggest fight in Brazilian history). All he has to do is smash in the skull of a dude who’s been shit talking him and his wife. And he doesn’t want to do it? What gives???
As for Anderson only having four fights left … well, I’d be more worried if we hadn’t heard that kinda talk before. Funny thing about 8-figure fight purses: they tend to keep a fighter coming back for more.
