“Your wife is a whore” > “Sissy”

When Tito Ortiz announced that Mark Coleman had pulled out of their fight with an injured knee, he used the word ‘sissy’ to describe Coleman in standard tame Ortiz smack style. The appropriate response to that kind of attack is probably somewhere between a shrug or an eye roll, but Coleman’s camp decided to go the “Tito’s wife is a dirty whore” route. From Mark’s manager Mike DiSabato:

“The only thing Coleman is afraid of when it comes to Tito is contracting swine flu from that dirty ass d-bag. We all know where he lays his head down at night. Tito wants to get personal with a legend? OK, let’s get personal – we can all go to our porn collections and watch what Tito sleeps with night after night,” he added.

Now what we have here is one of the most basic breaches of smack talk etiquette: going after the family. What’s worse is that I don’t think the comment was even made in anger (seriously, ‘oh noes we wuz called sissy! Raar’?), but instead as part of Coleman’s attempt to salvage his payday:

“Coleman has already asked UFC to push it back, but it is not in Mark’s hands as he will do what is good for UFC and what his employer thinks is best for the promotion. I got to think if Tito really wants to fight Mark he can ask Joe Silva to give him Coleman on January 2nd,” he said.

In truth, the whole thing was a good idea but I don’t think they had to lay it on as thick as they did. We’re talking about a fighter that agreed to spend the majority of 2006 beating Ken Shamrock up, and I’m sure he’d be more than happy to take the time and include Coleman on his easy opponent express back to relevance.

*UPDATE* The inevitable formal apology from Coleman’s manager for being nasty about Tito’s wife.

*UPDATE 2* And a response from Jenna Jameson.
