You must be this tall to fight the Fedor

Looks like Fedor’s crack management team have shifted their sights off Pedro Rizzo and onto Semmy Schilt. You might think this is a bit strange of them … they’re actually setting up what could be considered A HARDER FIGHT for Fedor. But when you remember that styles make fights in MMA, you start to realize that Semmy Schilt is yet another carefully picked opponent.

First let me preface this by saying I’ve got hella respect for Semmy Schilt. Sure he looks like the world’s largest geek, but he’s more than paid his dues in both kickboxing and MMA. The guy’s got a legitimate record including a decision loss to Fedor where Fedor basically had to lie on him for three rounds to win a decision. But just once, I’d like to see Fedor fight an opponent who’s

  • in the same weight class
  • not 40+ years old (excluding Randy)
  • not a joke on the ground

And that’s my problem with Schilt … I just don’t think he has the ground pedegree to hang with Fedor. Of course, you could say that I’m not gonna be satisfied with Fedor’s opponents until he’s fighting Josh Barnett. After all, Josh is basically a larger, goofier version of Randy Couture who just happens to NOT be stuck in crazy legal quagmires. I’m just saying.

they probably realized that if the pedro of the past were to come into contact with the pedro of now, it could destroy the very fabric of the universe.IMO

  • Schilt’s grip is ridiculous. I have seen him nullify opponents (better than Big Nog) in his guard when he grabs their wrists. Fedor can’t swing for the fences on Schilt as he does with shorter fighters. Fedor is not going to outpunch him with that crazy sideways Sambo punch either.

Yet, I’m sure he will tap Schilt out.

Let’s go ahead and start this fight w/ the rear naked choke already locked in so we can hurry up and get this trash over with.

Did you blow your load typing the last couple lines? 😛

  • hmm, I wonder how tall you have to be to care.

Aside from Randy and Josh, who else would be considered a legit fight for Fedor?
I have my own ideas, but I would like to hear from you all…

  • That’s pretty much it right now. Other guys would be able to earn a shot against fedor by stacking up a couple of good wins. But as it stands none of the HWs outside of the UFC are fighting consistantly enough, or against talent high enough on the rankings to make a shot against Fedor reasonable. Lets say Ben Rothwell beats Antonio Silva, Jeff Monson, and Mark Hunt. Then I would kinda sorta almost be okay with him. Maybe. It’s still a stretch though

I dont believe Barnett is in line for fedor. Barnetts last fight was when he lost to Nogueira on 12/31/06. How do you think a guy that hasnt fought in over 2 years and has won 1 of his last 3 fights even stand a chance with Fedor. Barnett is not the answer, maybe he was 2-4 years ago, but he doesnt stand a chance right now.

  • Hey, he fought that guy who wears cat ears and a maid costume.
