Presumably as a corollary to the UFC’s recent announcement that all main event fights will now be five rounds, a new rule will apply for the remainder of the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix: draws will go to a “sudden death” fourth round. Scott Coker had previously said that in the case of a draw an “independent fourth judge” would declare the “winner” based on their overall whole-fight performance, but his new Zuffa overlords wisely decided otherwise. Judges can’t be trusted as it is, and Coker was going to let one do an unaccountable Pride-style pick’em? Yeah, fuck that noise.
Don’t forget, the GP finally restarts this Saturday with “Overeem vs Werdum”, with the Masvidal/Noons fight bumped up to the main card due to Gina Carano’s sudden case of mysteryitis. HDNet will air the five prelim fights starting at 8PM Eastern, topped by JZ Cavalcante vs Justin Wilcox.
The July 30th “Feder vs Hendo” card is filling up. After backing out of their original date back in March due to a bum knee, Miesha Tate at last gets her shot at Marloes Coenen’s 135-lb belt. Coenen ” target=”_blank”>Maximo “Tequila” Blanco makes his North American debut against former lightweight champ Josh “The Punk Thomson.
UPDATE: Scott Smith vs Tarec Saffiedine just added to “Fedor vs Hendo”.
