The rollercoaster of a ride that is the YAMMA fight card continues to cause chills and thrills. The recent good news: Ricco Rodriguez was added to the 8-man tournament, and Mark Kerr replaced Pat Smith to fight Oleg Taktarov. The more recent bad news: Gary Goodridge is off the card, and Mark Kerr is still medically suspended:
Goodridge was knocked out in the second round against Mu Bae Choi in Seoul, South Korea on March 30. When speaking with the New Jersey Athletic Control Board, FiveOuncesOfPain.com (www.FiveOuncesOfPain.com) was informed that Goodridge will not be approved for the fight vs. Esch due to concerns over health and safety.
The NJACB also informed this site yesterday that in spite of YAMMA’s public announcement, a match between Oleg Taktarov and Mark Kerr that is being advertised by the promotion has not been approved. Kerr is still under suspension in the state of Connecticut and will not be approved until he’s been reinstated.
Goddamn is Goodridge ever a busy guy … I don’t think anyone even knew he was going to be fighting in Korea last weekend. That’s lights out for his match against Butterbean, which is too bad because I was looking forward to it with a sort of sick fascination.
Mark Kerr might still manage to pull his fight out of the fire, although considering he recently failed medicals due to elevated blood pressure and showed up for another fight looking like the Michelin man, I don’t think it really matters. Oleg Taktarov would have whupped him with one hand tied behind his back (Redbelt stylez). So if they find a ‘Master’ who can actually compete against Taktarov in his place, that’d be better.
