Y u no go ground wit me, Al???

Fabricio Werdum has surfaced after his WTF performance against Alistair Overeem and it sounds like he’s halfway towards realizing he basically botched the fight:

“I should have had more faith in my stand-up, listened to [coach] Rafael Cordeiro. Strategically he (Overeem) was better. Perhaps, if I hadn’t pulled the guard so many times, I would have won.

“He didn’t want to go to the ground with me at all but it is an MMA fight, you have to do the ground game as well. I think it is funny that [opponents] call me to go at them and I do, but when I call them to the mat, nobody does.”

Fun fact, Fabricio: MMA isn’t a sport where people have to meekly agree to play along with their opponent’s strategy. Falling on your butt 20+ times and getting upset that your opponent doesn’t drop into a triangle is like flailing at empty air and wondering why your opponent keeps moving his head out of the way.

I wonder why nobody follows him to the ground. His opponents are definitely not getting their GDA of ground game and that’s not fair.

wah wah wah. instead of crying about your opponent not going to the ground with you, get a hold of him and throw him on the ground and make him your prison bitch.

    do some work son.

Someone should tweet that to his goofy ass so that he might save himself some embarrassment next time.

Did anyone really expect Werdum to stand with Overeem?

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

Someone should tweet it to Overeem, too.  He complained afterward that Werdum wouldn’t stand with him.  Either he’s an idiot or his camp sucks for MMA tactics and strategy.

Whatever one might say about Royce Gracie now, he was able to pull people into his guard and finish them. Werdum was able to pull Overeem into his guard several times but wasn’t able to finish or even half-attempt a submission. The rest of the fight was him flopping on his back. He had a strategy; it just looked moronic past the first round. That he didn’t have a plan B was why he lost the fight.
