The more I learn about Matt Serra and his gang, the less I like them. You might remember I wasn’t all that impressed when Matt Serra blackballed his friend Joey Scarola over leaving The Ultimate Fighter. Joey was an instructor at Matt’s school and the best man at his wedding. You can make all the arguments you want for why Serra was justified, but it just comes down to the fact that if Serra decides you’re bad for his image, he’ll deuce you out no matter how close you supposedly are. Oh, and guys from his posse like Pete Sell will shit on you too:
Fight Ticker: Do you have any thoughts on Joey Scarola?
Sell: (Laughs) We actually tried to stop Scarola from trying out. At dinner one night with Matt Serra, Ray Longo, Joey Scarola, and myself, Longo told him it would either be the best thing that ever happened to him or the worst. Scarola laughed it off. I think that Joey wanted the fame without the work. We have had no contact with him although he has reached out to Matt a few times.
Fight Ticker: Now on to a subject that I am sure will bring some interesting answers, what do you think of Matt Hughes?
Sell: My relationship with Hughes is simple — if I see him it’s hi and bye and that’s it. Hughes is very cocky and has to be the man — he is very pompus and a backstabber. Matt Hughes walks around like his s**t don’t stink and he craves attention and will take a shot at you when you least expect it.
Nothing like calling someone a backstabber after talking about how you ditched one of your close compadres. But hey … Scaroli quit the Ultimate Fighter. So fuck him, right? Yeah.
