Why Keith Jardine???

Zach Arnold sez:

Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine as the UFC 76 main event? One word – what? Why not book Liddell vs. Houston Alexander, the guy who beat Jardine? How about Liddell vs. Forrest Griffin, who actually won his last fight?

I’ll tell ya why: Jardine is probably the only guy dumb enough to take the fight. I hope Zuffa is paying him a lot to step in and get his ass kicked.

  • Mike O says:

no fuck that i’ll tell you why: because chuck vs keith only ends in a brutal knockout and everyone knows it, so its a good headline fight.

  • Mattio says:

This is stupid and insulting. If they want Liddell to look good, it will probably happen if the Jardine Can is his next opponent. That doesn’t make it a fight I want to see.

If this works (high buyrate, no heckling of Jardine from the crowd for being put up against Liddell even though he did nothing to deserve it), they will probably pull shit like this forever. Any time a franchise fighter looks like crud in a fight, they will feed him a powder puff for his return.

I won’t bother asking anything about UFC’s end on this, but I will questions why Chuck Liddell would agree to this fight. What good can come out of beating Kieth Jardine? He should be getting the UFC to wait ONE MONTH (such a long time) so he can take on Silva.

The only defense I can muster for the UFC on this shitty move is that they are at least having Liddell take on a striker again. I think I even want Jardine to take this fight just to spite UFC for pulling this crap.

  • Big Fern says:

i think it’s cuz they both have stupid hair features (chuck-head; jardine-facial). no but seriously, Jardine’s a fuckin chump. he’s going to get his ass beat and that’s the only reason why they selected him…to make chucky look good.

  • Archivist says:

Pointless match-up competition wise but i doubt the drunken inbreds that boo while attending events give much of a whoopie about any kind of consequence in matchmaking. Jardine will probably wind up getting mauled but, then again, Forrest Griffin was supposed to use him as a doormat too and there was a slight change of plan there.
I’d totally do in my pants if Jardine whacks him silly and Chuck has a Griffin-grade breakdown post-fight hehe

  • Adam says:

I agree Jardine is going to get killed. Yeah he should at least make $50k for the fight vs. what he made at UFC 71 – $7k. So the only reason he is willing to fight Liddell is to make some money.

  • intenso says:

I’d like to see Chuck fight Bisping.

  • Jonathan says:

I still think that this is a ploy to get Silva to fight. But just imagine what would happen to Dana if Jardine beat Liddell. We can’t say that this kind of thing hasn’t happened before…because we all know it has. I might just pick Jardine in this fight for the hell of it. And yes, if Jardine takes this fight, then he most definitely needs to get paid. The UFC is good at rewarding fighters who were one reason or another, take fights that they probably shouldn’t.

And I don’t see Liddell breaking down if he loses.

  • hunt0r says:

This pisses me off! I really wanted to see Houston Alexander fight Chuck and now that loser Jardine get “rewarded” to fight Chuck cause he lost his last match? Makes no sense. Stupid UFC and all their power!

  • intenso says:

Houston Alexander has had 1 fight in the UFC. Neither he nor Jardine is the guy to fight Chuck.

  • Wu Tang says:

    Keith “the Pubic Hair” Jardine..

If this story is true, then i feel bad for the fans of UFC. They will not see the killer Wanderlei. Overall i can say that Pubic boy will fight well with Ice Man. I guess Greg Jacksons camp loves the monkey style of fighting.

Oww well, it seems that the new age MMA lovers will only surcomb to the monopoly of UFC and how they are the ‘best’ in teh buisness, while other organizations (past or present) will not have the same quality of fighters, as UFC hypes it.

  • Teufel says:

Liddell vs Jardine is happening for one reason and one reason only; there’s nobody else left to fight Chuck. Everyone else under contract for the UFC that people know about at 205 is either already scheduled to fight someone else (Rua, Alexander, Lambert, Rampage, Henderson) just fought (Griffin), are injured (Irvin) or have already been beaten definitively by Chuck recently (Ortiz, Babalu).

I don’t see why everyone is so upset about Liddell vs Jardine, this is the fight everyone was wishing would happen 4 months ago. It should be a good fight. It’s a dangerous fight for Chuck cos if he loses it’s going to damage his marketability, however, it’ll make Liddell vs Silva a much more even fight, especially if they’re both coming off back-to-back knockout losses.
