Typically people wait a week or so before spazzing out about a fighter’s next fight but this is Brock Lesnar we’re talking about and since UFC 116, people no longer seem to be ashamed of the wood he gives them. About 36 hours ago, Lesnar was getting his face smashed in by Shane Carwin. Now, people are falling over themselves trying to anticipate when he’ll face Cain Velasquez. Here’s MMA Junkie’s Dann Stubb sharing what he knows:
Prior to their UFC 116 fight — which UFC president Dana White expects to generate a million pay-per-view buys — officials told Lesnar and Carwin that the winner would likely meet Velasquez at UFC 119 if injuries aren’t a factor.
Lesnar, a former WWE star and NCAA Division I national wrestling champion, was bloodied and bruised in the bout, but a post-fight examination initially revealed no significant injuries.
That’s good news for UFC officials, whose busy summer and fall schedules left few viable main-event options for UFC 119. However, in a year featuring many significant heavyweight matchups, Lesnar vs. Velasquez would be one of the biggest.
UFC 119 is on September 25th in Indiana, roughly three months from now. That’s some fast turnaround for anyone not named Josh Koscheck or Chris Leben. Then there’s the fact that Brock Lesnar revealed at the post-fight press conference that his wife just had another baby and he wants to eat it spend some time with it. Finally … Indiana? For a big heavyweight mega-fight? Yeah right.
