I’ve personally been a big proponent of a potential Chris Leben vs. Wanderlei Silva fight. I even publicly bitched when Joe Silva selected Brian Stann as Leben’s next opponent. While I still very much like the idea of that fight, I have to say that the idea of Wanderlei instead welcoming Chael Sonnen back to the Octagon is an equally good idea. Why? This “tweet” from The Axe Murderer:

Sonnan you start tolk about me, becarful or you go need call to your dentista

If a Wand-Sonnen match-up means more statements like that, sign me up. Oh, and the possibility of Wanderlei knocking Sonnen’s head off of his body and earning an improbable title shot in the process ain’t too bad either.

What do you like better? Wanderlei against Leben, provided Leben beats Stann, or Wanderlei against Sonnen?

  • frickshun says:

I’m just a happy go lucky fight fan who welcomes this fight as much as any other high level match-up…….BUT…..we all know that a strong rassler always has the upper hand in these fights.

We’ll hold our collective breath waiting for the KO but I won’t “expect” it.

  • Reverend Clint says:

ill watch it but sonnen will win

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

Wanderlei against Leben, … or Wanderlei against Sonnen?

One brings in-ring awesome, the other brings baby-momma-drama. They will both feed my rabid primate soul.

  • fightlinker says:

Yeah that’s what makes me sad about it – sonnen will totally ride Wanderlei for 15 minutes. But so long as it’s not a season of TUF like rumored, I’ll take it

  • Reverend Clint says:

id watch chael on TUF as a coach but wandy might be weird on there.

  • glassjawsh says:

wand v leben 10 times out of 10

  • Redping says:

wand vs leben is good, its just a battle of the chins.

Chael will beat the crap out of wandy, he will be scared and reserved standing up just like with bisping, except he’ll get taken down easier, and won’t get up easier, and bisping sucks ass, and chael rules.

I’m all for a chael season of TUF, though put him against somebody and make it for a CONTENDER shot, don’t tie up the belts. And wandy is NOT a contender, i have no idea what this is based on? beating up god damned keith jardine and 10 seconds of trying to fight bisping right at the end? yeah, he’s got what it takes to beat anderson all right.

I acutally kinda want to see a Leben vs Sonnen season of TUF

  • AZ Bored says:

Well at least everyone knows Chael will dominate a fight vs Wand. I would love to watch that fight. But a more entertaining fight would be Leben vs Wand. Shawn is fucking nuts to think Wand has a chance to KO Chael.

  • YEAH RIGHT says:

I would do terrible things if the Wandy of Olde could come back for one night, one fight, just to completely murder Chael. Soccer kicks, foot stomps and all. Terrible, terrible things.

  • agentsmith says:

Wandy better start practicing his dump-n-hump defence now, cause that’s all it’s gonna be for 15 minutes. Chael is the middleweight Jon Fitch, except with poor sub defence.

  • SHORT_BUS says:

All broken pieces of Wand will be half off on Where ya at little guy, worried that I’ll understand you this time?

  • Márcio says:

Fuck all of you who are on that republicunt steroid shrinked balls. Sonnen is a fucking cheater and Wand will fuck him up.

  • SST says:

A baby can sub Sonnen. Wand is going to gogo this fool.

  • Redping says:

yeah wand will have to sub him to win, Marcio is smoking some seriously good shit to think Chael will even take much of a beating other than that. And certainly not the kind of beatings Chael usually recieves.

i look at it this way – theres nothing Wand could do that would beat Okami, so realistically what is he going to do to sonnen? Then again he could get a sub right at the end after getting beaten up for almost the whole time, then be heralded as one of the greatest fighters ever. either that or chael bullying an old brazillian

On the plus side, this is one of those stupid fights (like the Jim Miller/Oliviera) where I will get to make some money. Hopefully they make Chael the underdog just because Wand is such a name.

  • P W says:

Wand vs either a drunk/cheater or a republican/cheater? Leben doesn’t deserve to fight anyone except his inner demons. So I’ll go with Sonnen.

  • Redping says:

you guys are such haters, Chris Leben puts on awesome fights with his chin of steel, he does great work for the ufc. he was in one of the only anderson silva fights that is enjoyable to watch, that’s saying something

i don’t really care that people dislike chael, i tend to place hilariousness above other qualities, hence why I still like diego sanchez

  • Márcio says:

Redping don’t forget to come back here after Wand beats the shit out of Sonnen. Don’t count out a pissed of brazilian, especially one who’s nickname is the axe murderer.

  • AZ Bored says:

    Yah because nicknames win fights.

  • Márcio says:

Are you really that dumb? Or are you just trying really hard? He got that nickname for a reason, he destroys dudes, unlike that steroid cheater who just dry humps sweaty men for 15 minutes.

  • frickshun says:

Hey Marcio–>I want to believe. Unfortunately, a cool nickname & living in the past don’t usually factor in to fights.

Redping–>what are you saying about Miller/Oliviera? I really like the young kid although I don’t know if I’d put money on him winning.

  • SHORT_BUS says:

LOL at Márcio being mad at Sonnen for juicing and then in the same breath praising Wanderlei. I love Wand but that dude has taken more steroids than most of the fighters in UFC combined.

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

Wand has always been susceptible to technically aggressive wrestlers, so people will always see him that way, sorta like GSP’s “chin” being weak because Serra stunned him while Alves landed and couldn’t hurt him – so his chin is weak instead of his ego not taking Matt seriously. It takes work to un-learn these kinds of notions. Or current evidence to the contrary.

Personally, after Wand v. Leben, I’d like to see Leben v. Sonnen. Chael’s wrasslin’ versus Leben’s sub game could make for an unexpected contender rising to the top.

  • agentsmith says:

^^ Not to mention that Serra didn’t hit GSP on the chin, he hit him behind the ear, which drops pretty much everybody.

  • Billytk says:

I would much much rather see Wandy vs Leban, honestly the only Sonnen fight I really want to see is him against anderson or maybe Bisping just for the trash talk.. as much as I hate Bisping having him coach TUF against Sonnen for a tittle eliminator fight would be entertaining. As for Wandy a fight with him and Leban would almost HAVE to be fight of the night while Wandy v Sonnen could become a snorefest

  • iamphoenix says:

    who won?

  • Márcio says:

SHORT_BUS where’s the prove of that? He’s never been caught with anything, so you’re pulling that straight out of your ass. Sonnen, on the other hand, admited injecting it and went as far as to say he can’t fight without them. So from now on, everybody knows a win for Sonnen = a win for roids.

  • shawn says:

AZ Bored: I don’t think I’m nuts in thinking there’s a chance at all. At the same time, I’m not about to say it’s likely that a Wand KO would happen. I think it’s clear that the most probable outcome would be a Sonnen decision. My point is that I would love to watch that fight based solely off of the slight chance that Wand scores an upset KO.

Marcio: First off, it’s common knowledge that Pride didn’t test for PEDs. That tells you most fighters under the Pride banner were probably juiced up. Do not be ignorant enough to think that fighters wouldn’t take them just because it’s a form of cheating. The reason many fighters in the states don’t juice is largely due to the testing — not due to any morals. If something gives you an advantage in your career and there’s no chance of getting caught for it, then most people are going to take advantage of it. Plain and simple. It’s not about right or wrong — it’s about what’s in a person’s best interest. Does this mean Wanderlei definitively juiced? No, not at all. But it does mean that it was more-likely-than-not.

And as for Sonnen, you can hate the guy for a million reasons, but being a juicer or cheater really shouldn’t be one of them. His condition is legit, from what I understand. There are illegitimate reasons to take testosterone and there are legitimate ones. Sonnen’s reason sounds pretty legit. Remember, he was punished for a procedural fuck-up from not filing the proper paperwork — not for cheating.

  • Márcio says:

Does this mean Wanderlei definitively juiced? No, not at all. But it does mean that it was more-likely-than-not.

So you’re just making an assumption he juiced, I believe in the presumption of innocence, so I won’t tell that he’s a juicer baised on an assumption.

As for Sonnen, the fucking guy that had the gall to say that Armstrong gave himself cancer when he was juicing up himself, I believed the explanation of that shady doctor that showed up at that hearing as much as I believe in the tooth fairy.

  • shawn says:

    1. Steroids make you stronger, and therefore up your chances to win a fight. There was no oversight in Japan. Thus it can be inferred that many of the fighters competing at the time Wanderlei fought in Pride were juiced up. And from that it can be inferred that there is a good chance Wanderlei himself juiced. This cannot be proven, but is instead an inference made based on HUMAN NATURE — acting in one’s best interest.

    2. Whether or not you think the doctor himself is credible, it is a fact that Sonnen’s body does not produce a normal amount of testosterone. Thus, he needs medical help in the form of injections in order to rectify that problem. This cannot be argued.

  • G Funk says:

^ Fuck That! He showed ELEVATED levels of T in his test so he obviously took more than “bringing it to normal levels”. If you need to inject yourself with Steriods to bring your T to “normal” levels then you shouldn’t be fighting. Period…

  • SHORT_BUS says:

    @ Márcio

“where’s the prove of that? He’s never been caught with anything, so you’re pulling that straight out of your ass.”

    You’re joking right?

  • Márcio says:

    No, I’m not. Link please.

  • SHORT_BUS says:

You’re just lying to yourself by posting that kind of nonsense.

  • Márcio says:

Right, you’re the one who states some theory as fact and then when called out on it, can’t back it up with anything, and I’m the one posting nonsense. Thanks for playing.

  • shawn says:

Marcio: Can you please, just for the sake of my brain not exploding, admit that it is at least POSSIBLE that Wanderlei Silva took steroids back in the day?

I’m not asking for you to admit that he did IN FACT take steroids, or that it is more-likely-than-not, but just that it is at least POSSIBLE.

  • Márcio says:

I never said it wasn’t possible, everyone can be a roider, I just object to people like SHORT_BUS calling him a bigger roider than the entire UFC roster combined without a single shred of evidence. He’s been tested 5 times since arriving in the UFC and no dice.

  • SST says:

Didn’t Sonnen have 4 times the allowable T ratios in his system. Shouldn’t this provide a performance advantage which he’ll will not have in all future fights? I think if Wand focuses on fighting off his back and BJJ, he still has a good chance to sub Sonnen.

  • Redping says:

is steroids and testosterone the same thing? I thought Chael just drank a protein shake before he came in or something.

lets no forget that leben, marquardt, gracie, sherk, have all been done for actual PEDs. And they actually DID something (well two of them). The fact that you’re so angry at Chael for not getting a title just shows you’rea pride-nut hugger with no ability to think logically.

I wish tihs fight would happen already so Chael could lay on Wandy and windshield-wiper punch his face in, and then hopefully I’ll come back here and I won’t have you telling me that Ninja Rua is going to kick Mark Munoz’s ass or something totally i-fucking-relevant to the ufc belt

oh and “Redping–>what are you saying about Miller/Oliviera? I really like the young kid although I don’t know if I’d put money on him winning.”

Jim Miller is going off at the underdog. I’d say that a close loss to Gray Maynard is slightly more impress than a 3rd round sub of Efrain fucking Ecscuadero. That’s like beating wandy for a title shot, Jim Miller is surely going to counter-left hand that guy when he keeps throwing stupid flying knees thinking he’s aldo

also marcio your inability to view things for the science and physics they represent is aggravating. we know wandy has a bigger name crushing cans in japan and the fans have known him for longer. We know that’s all you care about, or you care about Chael’s testosterone enhancement but you obviously don’t care about fights

Ok how about this logic – if wandy wasn’t on PEDs in pride, then HE MOST DEFINITELY already fought a lot lot lot of people who were on them, while he wasnt. So what are you so worried about? go back to your cheeto stained beanbag and listen to the pride theme song over and over and hope a brazillian soccer kicks your head so hard that your cursed round eyes fall out

  • SHORT_BUS says:

    Starts slow clap……….

  • Márcio says:

Redping I i stopped reading after the fourth dumb thing you wrote, that was around 1/4 in. But I hope that was therapeutic for you in some way.

  • P W says:

“is steroids and testosterone the same thing?”

I don’t know if it was meant as a rhetorical question, but ehhh…. yes.

  • P W says:

    Double post, sorry.
