UFC offers up a freebee

I don’t know why the UFC has decided to release the Hazelett vs Burkman fight on for free, but I’m not going to question it too much. The fight is freaking awesome, and well deserving of the fight of the night and submission of the night bonuses. Hell, I’d give it submission of the year at this point … better even than the Aokiplata and that nifty thingamajig that Marcus Aurelio did back in April. Actually, watching Aurelio’s armbar again, it’s pretty damned similar to what happened at the end of McLovin / JBurk, and his might be a bit more visually pleasing. What do you guys think?

  • andres says:

i dunno if you pulloff a submission no ones seen before and it worked thats kinda submission of the year although both runner ups were beautiful

  • I downloaded it off their site, for free, so i can keep it forever.

  • Steve says:

You got to give McLovin’ extra credit for nearly pulling off the elusive submission via omoplata in the first round. That is the closest I have ever seen anyone come to actually submitting someone with an omoplata.

  • I think Hazelett is actually one of the best guys at submission offense in MMA. When guys start to improvise and get creative with subs this is when you know they’re on another level…

  • chuck says:

you can’t fullscreen the video on the site wtf? how did you download the fight off the site?

  • GODZILLAD says:

Dustin’s armbar has absolutely nothing on Aurelio’s. Can’t even hold Maximus’ jock.

  • damn that was some nice jiu-jitsu

  • zeke says:

Aurelio’s was way better. The arm bar didn’t even look it was there until 2 seconds later when Marcus had it fully sunk in.

  • Carcass says:

    Aurelio’s was WAY more slick.

  • Gilbert says:

Hazelett’s was awesome, Aurelio’s was twice as awesome

  • Rich says:

Not sure what the fuss was about on Hazelett’s set up. I was looking up flying armbars months ago and the Judo video below came up. Not sure I’d call either a flying armbar but the set up on this is very similar to the Hazelett fight:

  • supercrap says:

    That was indeed sweeeeeeeeeeeeet.

  • Burtonchik says:

re: judo, yeah, that definitely looks like a judo set-up, he did something like an osoto-geri to take him down, and ended up in the armbar

either way, amazing fight, they should’ve aired this instead of some of the scrub matches that got on…

also, what’s burkman’s stand-up background? looks a lot like karate (could be tkd or kb..??), what with the spinning hook kick (NOT back kick) and those jumping rear-leg round kicks…

  • Mike_N says:

I just enjoyed Dustin’s “yeah, I kinda pulled that outta my ass” response to Joe’s question about whether he practiced that armbar or not.

  • jewboy says:

I don’t know about fight of the night. I enjoyed the Diego/Luigi fight more. It had more action and even though it was one-sided, Sanchez had a hard time putting away Fiorivanti and it was fun to watch. Alls Burkman has is the slams and a round’s worth of submission defense. Hazelett needs to work on his boxing to have a chance at the higher levels.

  • cyrus says:

I told all yall mother fuckers about Hazelett.
I made that mother fucker what he is today.
Ciavash: Fuck Nick Diaz, he’s being a bitch.

  • Hammer says:

UFC is going to have to give away some more freebies. I think it is stupid not to. If he really wants to reach a wider audience, those who cant fork $45 or so bucks a match are a rather large segment of our pop. It just makes sense that to make it more mainstream, you need to give it to the masses. it isnt like the advert money wont be there on national t.v. either. I am sure Dana Light will still make his coin regardless.
