UFC ARE MOTHER FUCKERS

Well FUCK YOU UFC:

The Ultimate Fighting Championship ® (UFC ®) organization today announced a new relationship with two ticket industry heavyweights StubHub and PrimeSport (a RazorGator Company) to become the official ticketing and hospitality partners of the UFC.

The new multi-year agreement designates StubHub as the “Official Fan to Fan Ticket Marketplace” of the UFC, while PrimeSport will become the “Official Ticket Package Partner” of the UFC. The deal promises to offer UFC fans the most user-friendly experience to buy and sell secondary tickets as well as exclusive package and hospitality opportunities that have never been available before for UFC events.

Of course “Fan to Fan” is just a nice way to say “Scalper” – the UFC is now actively encouraging people to buy tickets to resell them at retardo prices. This just blows my fucking mind that they’d do that. Most companies work their asses off to kill this kind of behavior, but apparently since the UFC can make a few bucks off a partnership they seem happy to let this shit fly.

The UFC was lucky that there wasn’t a huge backlash after the bullshit that went down at the last UFC in Montreal – I think everyone was just so giddy from the fact that the company was coming to Canada that we let this shit slide. But if what happened then becomes a regular occurrence I think you’re going to see people (other than me) losing their goddamn minds. Again, it just blows my mind that the UFC would encourage this. The fact that Dana White can call MMA bloggers and news sites ‘parasites’ and then set up a deal like this makes me want to put a cinder block through his cocksucking two-faced windshield.

What complete disrespect to the fans. If I was a cartoon character I’d have steam coming out of my ears right now. I’d also have a wolf’s head but a man’s body and a three foot neon green penis. And a dragon tail. Eugh, even Yiffy humor can’t calm me down. Motherfuckers.

I don’t really see a difference from the way it has been through ticketmaster. I really don’t mind it when promotions get away from the ticketmaster b.s., usually the charges are less. Ticketmaster doesn’t do anything to stop scalpers either….

    capitalism…ain’t it great!?

you’re ok with downloading events/fights off the net, hence sticking it to the companies, but you’re not ok when the companies let people stick it to you? either it’s ok to stick it to everyone, or no sticking at all 😛

next partnership: Zuffa + NAZI CORP

  • So much negativity lately. I also fail to see how this makes anything worse? Its already obvious that the UFC is motivated only by the almighty dollar, which is great since they are a business. Run it how they want, if they make more and do profitable things, they will be seen as a success. I wish they were motivated by the love of the sport (like us) but they obviously are not.

And this for the same company that charges 45 bucks for a shitty live streaming of their events. I’m shocked.

I think scalping is bullshit no matter what you call it. The UFC does lose shitloads though from internet/torrent sites.

That being said, they would still gouge the shit out of the fan base even if they were getting every dime.

All this crap is “if you cant beat em, join em” with the scalpers.

If they cant stop scalping, they want to be in on it and make money.

This is no different than what just about every other major pro sports team in the country has done. Blame your local government: They do nothing to stop big-time ticket scalping, use the laws in place to simply go after the average guy on the street looking to unload his extra ticket, and turn a blind eye and let places like StubHub grow into a monster business. For sports teams, or UFC, it’s either team up with these guys or let them take all the profit.

Every major sports organizaton that matters is partnered with stubhub, so I think this is progress. I’ve used stubhub many times in the past to get tickets I had no chance at otherwise, so I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Scalpers are how sports work nowadays, and stubhub is decent in that the prices usually don’t get ridiculously out of hand. I think that the fallout over UFC 83 is exactly why they did this; Stubhub is at least moderated and official and now you won’t find too many guys on the street asking for $6000 cash for a seat in the 100s at the Bell Centre like I saw in Montreal. If you’re the type of fan who just wants tickets and doesn’t want to have to bid on Ebay or go through sketchy sites like craigslist, stubhub is where you go. I think that the UFC made the right move here.

i seriously never bought the whole “but the companies lose money to torrents!” i doubt it…how many of those people would go “oh my, i can’t download the $100 dvd set…i guess i’ll have to whip out the credit card!”
i know I wouldn’t. if i did anything that nefarious as download torrents.
but those folks who get an AVI or MPG from a friend and watch an event and like it….would they have seen MMA otherwise? what about kids coming out of college and starting careers? when they have the dough, what are they buying?
blaming the series of tubes is goofy

Nobody downloads the fights to “stick it to the companies”. Who’s that patient? Most want to see it live. That’s what the UFC sells….live events. Some fork over the live viewing price to see the replay, but if you don’t watch it that night, too bad, gotta wait for the dvd in a couple months. If I didn’t torrent, I wouldn’t be shelling out cash, I’d just miss out, and be pissed off. Most download the event to watch it again, or induct those who wouldn’t pay to watch into those who like it enough to shell out. I pay for it, so I don’t feel bad torrenting the fight. My friends at work have to work the night shift, when they’d usually go to a bar to watch it, so I burn a copy for them….it’s really doing the ufc a favour, as I’m keeping about 20 guys up to date, informed about it, and excited for the next event that they’ll be off work for.

“but you’re not ok when the companies let people stick it to you? either it’s ok to stick it to everyone, or no sticking at all”

It’s not the companies ‘letting’ people, that blame lies with local governments and law makers (I hate Miley Cyrus, that serial abortionist snake-monster, but she is impacting law by backing a bill to prevent scalping at the purchase stage, so I loathe her less), it’s the UFC making a move like this to essentially encourage scalping. Because, not only do these companies have to pay the UFC, but this market makes it imperative that, if you want tickets, either to scalp or go to the event yourself, you MUST get a UFC fight club membership.
People are just getting frustrated at having people grabbing for their money at every possible stage, causing already high costs to escalate.

But this is only minor buggery from the UFC. This matter has to be resolved on a state by state basis, and that’s why it’ll never be fixed.

They don’t lose a shitload from torrents. If it wasn’t for online P2P/downloads/torrents, I wouldn’t have been an MMA fan in the first place. That is how I got introduced to UFC and PRIDE. And that goes for a lot of fans I’m sure. If it wasn’t for P2P, torrents and youtube, PRIDE would have had almost no fans in America because that’s how they were introduced to the promotion. It would have been a hard sell to me back then to convince me to part with $30 (or whatever it was priced back in those days) for a UFC to watch a completely different sport that I knew nothing about at the time. Before anyone gets on their moral high horse with piracy, I look at it like this. Corporations are motivated by greed. They want to make money as much as possible, even if it means lobbying the government in their favor to screw over the consumer and their employees and taxpayers too even. So it is only natural that we, in retaliation for corporate greed, that we exercise our consumer greed. Corporations want to get the most profit they can for less, we want to get the most enjoyment from our consumption for less.

Anywho I’m sure that Dana White is happy knowing that 18-34 year olds are watching his shit (even for free) instead of watching something else (like pro wrestling or boxing). It’s no secret that Bill Gates, while he’s anti-piracy, likes to see people use pirated Microsoft software rather than Linux or Mac.
