UFC 128 – The Picks

I predict violence

Mirko Fillipovic vs Brendan Schaub

Subo: Schaub is a very exciting fighter, and one that looks all the more viable at HW now that a 240 lb man reigns supreme in that division. Former Golden Gloves winner, current Grudge trainee and future victor over one of the legends of the sport. If there were a just and powerful God, we would see both Fedor and CC attempting to move down as the HW division has clearly, irrevocably, inarguably left both of them behind. PRIDE please stay dead. Schaub by legend-kill.

Reverend Clint: Cro Cop vs Schaub: I want Cro Cop to win but he is old as fuck and broke worse than Ryans ass. Brenden via oldman breakage/UD

Jim Miller vs Kamal Shalorus:

Subo: Weird fight. I understand trying to get out of Kamal what you can, but between this match up and Guillard/Roller, I’d have much rather seen Melvin fight Jim in a title eliminator. LW is all kinds of messed up right now, and probably will be until Gilbert Melendez gets done cleaning out the divi… ok, I couldn’t get through that with a straight face. But I tried. Miller by not getting knocked out.

Reverend Clint:  Jim takes this one via being able keep the persians at bay, like 300. I think it might end with a sub but more than likely it will be a stinker. Miller via UD

Nate via UD Nate Marquardt vs Dan Miller:

Subo: I’m sad, because Marquardt was going to make a statement (namely, “I just murdered someone”) against the too-small-for-185 Akiyama. Miller is a much, much tougher fight, but on short notice, I’ll give Nate the credit to finish this. Marquardt by 2nd round Street Fighter II combo.

Reverend Clint:  Dan Miller sucks and Nate don’t. Dan is the shittier of the Millers, maybe even worse than Cole Miller.Nate via UD

Urijah Faber vs Eddie Wineland:

Subo: Not a gimmie. Not a gimmie by any stretch of the imagination. However, when I think a Faber opponent is competitive with him, I remember the second Mike Brown fight. Whereas Brian Bowles quit after the second round with A broken hand, Faber fought the majority of five rounds with TWO. Watching him sucker Brown in just to wing elbows at this face made me a fan, and I think that toughness removes Wineland’s opportunities to win. Faber by decision.

Reverend Clint: Urijah might have sucked against Aldo but Wino is not Aldo. Faber needs a win against a credible opponent so he can once again get that reacharound from uncle Dana. Urijah via UD, fun to watch though

Mauricio Shogun Rua vs Jon Jones:

Subo: I don’t think Jon Jones is the second coming of Christ, but I can’t get Mark Coleman – six months prior to winning a shocking unanimous decision over Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100 – beating Shogun on the score cards (before being TKOed with less than a minute left) out of my mind. I see Shogun as a younger, stronger version of Anderson; same amazing striking, same ability on the ground, same gaping hole in his wrestling game. I don’t think Jones is going to let this opportunity slip through his fingers, and I don’t think his camp will let him hang out in Shogunis wheel house. Welcome to the Bones era. Jones by second round TKO.

Reverend Clint: Rua has every tool to beat this hype machine. Sure he looked like a disabled child against griffin and coleman but that was the past. Jones is a good fighter but has really only beaten the crap dana has thrown at him, he is all hype. Like a fast food burger in the picture he looks awesome but once you open the bag he is kinda lame. If im wrong I blame the strikeforce purchace. Shogun via TKO rd 3

LetiBleu: Predicts Dana and the fans win tonight

  • Letibleu says:

maaaan that was a nice card

  • Blackula Jonez says:

dope fucking card, got my $$$’s worth.

holy fuck, i did not expect shogun to get mauled like that.

  • Reverend Clint says:

not a bad card but the prelim made me sad

  • Blackula Jonez says:

facebook prelims were ass, the spike ones were dope.

still can’t get the image of Shogun getting brutalized out of my head, I though he was going to clobber jones standing but get tooled off his back. But he was bested in every facet.

Props to bones and good luck to evans.

  • Letibleu says:

I think Evans is the only one who will have any inkling of a chance to defeat Jones for the next while. Imagine a division with a dozen fighters like Jones.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

Machida may have a chance stylistacly, jones is still hittable when he misses big strikes and lyoto should be able to hop in and out of range.

Also the gameplan against jones on the ground should be to get back up, with his elongated torso and stretch armstrong arms it will be difficult to submit him. So either scramble ot butterfly guard that motherfucker off you. As we saw with rua staying under that kid will take the like out of you.

  • Letibleu says:

Machida wont be able to touch Jones. Machida must get inside the pocket to be effective. Jones last night was not getting out of the pocket after striking and those are the only times we saw Shogun touch him. Jones sometimes circled out the wrong way and if he corrects those things he will be ultra scary like the Alien in Alien.

  • frickshun says:

    Agreed w/Leti.

  • scissors61 says:

the only guy that can touch jones is anderson. maybe phil davis in like, 2 years or some shit. who knows.

  • frickshun says:

^^Until Phil Davis studies more Youtube Kung Fu, he ain’t touching Bones.
