Twits and twats: a few reactions from the MMA community to Fedor’s loss

Kenny Florian:

Was hoping to see Fedor come back strong. He will still go down as a legend regardless. Silva looked like a beast out there.

Joe Rogan:

If Fedor retires I will always be a fan. He carried himself like a zen warrior, and he fought like a man possessed. Respect always.

Miesha Tate:

Dang felt so bad for Fedor tonight it always chips at my heart seeing former stars on their way out… Makes me appreciate the here & now

BJ Penn:

In my eyes Fedor will always be a champ.

Miguel Torres:

Just shed a single tear, witnessed one of the greatest fighters of all time contemplate his retirement after 2nd loss. I am sad.

Shane Carwin (whose offer to train with Fedor probably should’ve been taken up in retrospect):

I have nothing but respect for Fedor. We all lose that is the one thing you can be sure of in MMA. He is still a GOAT imo.

(Fake?) Brett Rogers:

if you retire after 2 losses u are a pussy. sry to break it to u

Mike Chiapetta:

For people who disagree with my belief that Fedor is the best heavyweight in MMA history, please tell me who is and why.

Dana White, who has been engaged in a twitter battle with Fedor fans since the fight ended :

he never gave u guys the fights u wanted to see and u guys still blow him! That ur problem not mine!!

omfg! Quit ur cryin bitches and go to bed

  • lukustra says:

dana white is such a bitch. its hard to like the dude when he does shit like this. the first loss smiley face was one thing, but this was sad, and he should respect the greatness of fedor and what he did for the sport. stubborn bostainian pos.

  • Take It Easy says:

Dana White (and fake Brett Rogers) once the only guy with the balls to keep shit real while the rest of the faggots in the incestuous MMA community suck each other off.

This was a night to be celebated as the fall of MMA’s first & last boxing style champion whose legacy was a product of careful booking and management rather than constantly fighting the world’s best.

MMA fans are the ones who won last night.

  • scissors61 says:

Sometimes I find Dana’s reactions tasteless, then I remember he’s basically just your average dickheaded, hardcore MMA fan except he has a global bully pulpit and insane business acumen. That’s how I’m able to shrug it off. Rogan pretty much summed up my feelings on the matter.

  • RaginAsian says:

Gotta agree with Dana. Losses to Lesnar and/or Couture would’ve been a respectable way to end his career, but losses to Werdum and Bigfoot are just sad. I don’t know if I can stomach the thought of his final post-fight interview being conducted by a metro clown.

Let’s hope he hangs ’em up before M1 talks him into Shamrock or Pulver levels of embarrassment.

  • Jim Harbaugh Scramble says:

“MMA fans are the ones who won last night.”

I agree. Get m1 the fuck away from this sport.

  • SST says:

I dream of the day when DW fails. No respect will be given to the jazzercise instructor. Fedor didn’t dance around the ring and point fight his way to decision after decision. He didn’t talk about his legacy or engage in trash talk. GSP and Silva will never achieve his greatness inside or outside of the cage.

  • Rodriguez says:

GSP and Anderson alreadyhave better legacies than Fedor. The guy might be the greatest Heavyweight in *history* (not the present) but his career was ruined by bad matchmaki g and even worse management. Fedor will godown as the biggest “what could’ve been?” of wasted potential in all of MMA. Anything else is revisionist history.

  • Reverend Clint says:

To right rod. Fedor failed himself and others by not pressing to fight the best, instead he fought the best of the rest. He might be the best hw of the past 10 years but that’s like being a gold medalist in the hope, skip and drewl special olympics. I was a fan ack in his pride days, pre zulu, but even then he was fighting shit. He was bettr shit then his shit opponents… well shit just don’t cut it anymore. He has tito syndrome… seemed good at the time but just sucked less then his peers.

  • scissors61 says:

I have to disagree when you basically say Fedor was just a half-can among cans during his PRIDE career. That’s just completely unfair to CroCop, to Coleman and especially to Nogueira. For fuck’s sake, the best heavyweights the UFC had at that time were Arlovski and Mir. I don’t know what it is about Fedor that makes people lose all sense of context.

  • Reverend Clint says:

So that’s what 3-5 good fighters and the rest shitty jap cans or 205 lbers

  • Take It Easy says:

I know what it is. Actually watching the fights and seeing none of those guys were actually that good.

  • scissors61 says:

Actually watching the fights and seeing none of those guys were actually that good.

In comparison to whom? The current crop of young heavyweights? Of course they are not as good. I could just as easily watch a Dave Menne fight and say, “Well, he was a champ but he fucking sucks compared to Anderson Silva!” But in comparison to their contemporaries? They were the best. Context.

  • Take It Easy says:

When “the best” are struggling against the likes of Bob Sapp that term doesn’t mean much of anything.

  • scissors61 says:

It’s always amusing when people attempt to actually redefine words themselves in order to win an argument. There is no “there” there. I don’t know if some PRIDE fan was mean to you on the internet or something, but you should get over it.

  • Take It Easy says:

You ought to take a break from making nonsensical posts and download a few PRIDE torrents or something.

  • scissors61 says:

No way, those guys are all cans.

  • Grappo says:

So that’s what 3-5 good fighters and the rest shitty jap cans or 205 lbers

    suck a cock asshole

  • Take It Easy says:

those are the cold hard historical facts that are obvious after people have had time to distance themselves from the events and the novelty and excitement have passed

    suck it up fag

  • scissors61 says:

Ha ha, there’s nothing factual about any of this. It’s all subjective.

  • Jim Harbaugh Scramble says:

Fedor needs to lose more often. These threads are fun.

  • scissors61 says:

Just wait until GSP loses. It’s gonna be epic.

  • SST says:

    ^^ditto for Silva

  • Take It Easy says:

thats just like your opinion mannn

  • subo says:

I’m so glad TakeItEasy is back.  But now that Fedor is dead you’ll have to find other things to make fun of

  • Oontyex says:

he was fricken awesome back in 2005, fought cans for a while, then tried to compete at the top of the B-leagues, even then he ducked their top fighter (overeem), or… assuming he’d beat strikeforce’s 2nd teer – his management dogged fans out of the overeem fight to try and build hype – cant agree with dana more, his management/him has toyed with fans for ages and as a result we’ve missed out on some great fights

  • Take It Easy says:

There’s always Anderson Silva and Leonard Garcia

  • Reverend Clint says:

Grappo needs to take fedors cock out his mouth and watch those fights. Yes to a degree it is subjective if a fighter was a can at the time but fighting guys like babalo and arona who are currently 205 or a guy like fujita who dispite having a thick skull wasn’t much of a fighter. He was entertaining much like cro cop fighting that mexican wrestler can, GOAT by default sure but he still dodged fighting many fighters in favor of the easy way out via can.

  • scissors61 says:

I reckon Grappo was more mad about that word starting with “J” that you used, seeing as he’s half-Japanese and all. Knowwhuddahmean.

  • OnlineRehab says:

The biggest problem I have is the fact that even if Fedor is contemplating retirement, he shouldn’t have said a damn thing about it. Suck it up, go back to the locker room, and then make up some “I’m going to train harder next time BS.” For the internet crowned “best HW ever” fighter to even think about ending his career on a loss, is like him saying “fuck you” to all of his fans. Bad form.

  • Reverend Clint says:

Oh yeah forgot this was a civil site… well he fought tons of cracker cans too. He also fought some koku-jin or should I say kurombo?

  • Blackula Jonez says:

What sucks more, that Fedor never got to fight the best the UFC had to offer or that he didn’t even get the best fights possible outside the UFC against Barnett and Overeem.

Handing Rodgers his first loss will not go down as a major accomplishment if Brett never gets his mojo back and loses to other name fighters. And the defeats to Werdum and Bigfoot that at the time seemed like easy wins ended up backfiring and added not only a win to the Brazilians records, but they now have possibly the best win a heavyweight can get outside the UFC.

  • Take It Easy says:

if you believe brett rogers ever had any “mojo” you are officially the dumbest person alive sorry

  • Subbevil says:

Good fucking lord, Fightlinker again shows itself to be the preferred congregation point of pseudo-contrarian, too-cool-for-school prickfaces. If you look at this post, it’s a bunch of professional fighters celebrating the career of someone who’s widely recognized of one of the sport’s greatest competitors, and then a bunch of bullshit posts by those who find it somehow virtuous to piss people off, and have been waiting for this moment since they stumbled upon Ultimate Fighting and got pissed off when the mean kids in the Sherdog forums called them newbs.

It’s entirely chickenshit to start saying that an athlete is over-rated, wait until that athlete has passed his or her physical prime, and then go around and tell everyone that you were right all along. The fact that the man lost changes nothing, and in no way verifies your ridiculous revisionist bullshit.

Politicians can only wish that they could get their rank-and-file members to spout talking points with as much zeal and loyalty as do Dana White’s minions.

  • frickshun says:

    Subbevil +1

  • G Funk says:

Oh god, more dummies feeding take it easy…

  • Take It Easy says:

fedor didnt lose because he was “past his physical prime” it was because he was fat and didnt train hard

  • subo says:

Take It Easy, does Chael Sonnen still turn your crank?

  • Reverend Clint says:

turn your crank? Is that coloradan for get you hard?

  • Take It Easy says:

    5-1 against Anderson, baby.

  • Take It Easy says:

deflowering a girl in a wedding dress ftw

  • Blackula Jonez says:

I am flattered take it easy, nice to see you back on the site with your acerbic wit intact. Adayu does bring up an inconvenient but solid point, fedor has not fought the same since he remarried.

I blame the new Mrs. Emelianenko for not performing her wifely duties…or doing them too much?

All jokes aside it will be a while before we will be able to rationally discuss fedors career. But the fact remains that it will always be difficult talking about the greatness of an mma fighter in the post PRIDE/modern era that has no wins or fights in the UFC.

Win, lose or draw competing in the UFC matters to the legacy of any male mixed martial artist who wants to be considered as great or the kingpin of a weight division. Fedors legacy will always have detractors based on that fact alone despite his undefeated run in Pride.

  • SST says:

GSP hasn’t been in a fight since Serra kicked his ass. Silva intentionally refuses to finish fights. Lesnar turned into a turtle-face bitch. And these guys are the best fighters in the world? LOL!

  • subo says:

I know you don’t believe me now, and probably couldn’t if you wanted to.  But is IS going to be OK.  Remember, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

GSP/Silva = the bout that decides the greatest MMA fighter up until this point.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

    surprise 2x

M-1 is going to wring Fedor out for all he is worth. Please Believe.
