Well, if you were looking forward to another Huerta/Guida level booking to round out the season finale of TUF7, you’re about to be disappointed:
“The Ultimate Fighter 1” winner Diego Sanchez (18-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and UFC welterweight Luigi Fioravanti (12-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) will meet at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale in June.
The live finale, which caps off the upcoming seventh season of the UFC’s reality series, takes place June 21 at The Palms Las Vegas. The event, which airs live on Spike TV, will also crown a champion from the reality series (the show debuts April 2).
The thing that upsets me the most about this booking is I think the UFC was looking to set up a Diego Sanchez vs Luke Cummo bout (something I’d actually be very interested in seeing), but since Luke botched that fight we’re now stuck with Luigi Fioravanti, who WILL NEVER AMOUNT TO ANYTHING … EVER.
The guy has had six fights thus far in the UFC and a 3-3 record to show for it. I’d like to think I’m something of an MMA enthusiast, and even I can’t remember any of his fights past the snoozefest lay-n-pray he unleashed on Luke Cummo. And now after going back and re-watching some of his fights courtesy of video.ufc.com I can say he’s about as terribly average a fighter as can be.
