Tito Ortiz is sick of the UFC’s shit

I try not to say “I told you so” a lot, because I know that the majority of you guys agree with most of what I post. But to all those people who said Tito would never leave the UFC no matter how balls they treated him … I told you so. I also look forward to another “I told you so” in six to twelve months when Tito signs with another major organization and helps them to become the first real competition the UFC has faced since Pride. Gotta love it when the UFC shoots itself in the foot.

Lots of people don’t like Tito, not so much because of his talk but because his walk hasn’t backed it up since … hmm. 2002, let’s say. I, on the other hand, choose to love Tito Ortiz because he’s one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts and the sport needs guys like him to help it grow. The bigger the sport grows, the more events we get to see, and the more everyone in the sport gets paid. Eventually the sport will grow big enough that a little blogga’ like me will get a few crumbs from the table, and we can rejoice, slap a salary cap on the fighters, and all live happily ever after.

Here’s what I want to do: can everyone put aside their opinion of Tito Ortiz for a second and look at the hard fact: Tito Ortiz makes the UFC lots of money. Let’s even ignore all the money he made them through the dark ages of the sport, where he basically carried the promotion on his young and unbusted back. Lets just look at now. Put Tito against a decent name, and you’ll have awesome PPV numbers and sold out venues. It’s that simple.

Even if you decide that Tito Ortiz ain’t worth the time or trouble, you can’t ignore the growing trend of insanity that’s developing: the UFC sure seems to be losing a lot of guys lately. Randy Couture is gone, Tito’s come out and straight up said he’s going. Andrei Arlovski is playing his cards close, but leaks have shown he’s ready to fuck off too. And the fishy silence between the UFC and Mirko Crocop points to the UFC trying to wrangle a cheaper fight out of the Croatian due to his past performances.

Oh, and let’s not forget that the UFC tossed Ken Shamrock out on his ass to boot. I don’t care how old Ken is, how shitty Tito is, how boring Arlovski’s been, or what Crocop’s shown in his last two fights. The UFC is losing marquee fighters who should be in the ring fighting, not on the sidelines over contractual disputes. In fact, if they keep this pace up they’ll have lost more cornerstone fighters than most other promotions have combined.

I don’t think the solution to these problems is to throw money at the fighters. But I also don’t think crazy hardball tactics are the way to go either. Zuffa should be smart enough to figure out a way to solve these problems without reading the riot act and burning bridges every time a fighter wants to be paid more.

Well said FL. I’d personally like nothing better than to see Tito bust Machida’s face before serving Dana a big shit sandwich from another promotion. Actually, I’d prefer to see him serve it while fighting in the UFC, but it doesn’t look like that’s gonna happen. And I’m not exactly holding my breath about him busting up Machida either…….

  • Xavier says:

“They said I wasn’t worth the money, I was worth no more than what I’m getting paid now, and I’m not a commodity to them anymore — I’m not as viable to them anymore,” Ortiz said. “That was a sign of disrespect.“

That’s absolutely retarded for the UFC to do.

They’re losing their goddamned minds. WTF.

  • Fightlinker Jackal says:

The problem here is no one is thinking longterm, except the UFC. The UFC figures that as long as he keeps giving shitty performances his popularity will steadily decrease and by his last two fights he won’t be that marketable. Not to mention a stacked division with tough competition that he can barely survive. I don’t blame the UFC for not wanting to give him a pay hike, however, I also agree that this will bite them back.

  • cyphron says:

Machida’s #1 fan here to tell Tito to STFU.

Am I the only person here who thinks Tito is a boring as fighter? When’s the last time Tito finished ANYONE who’s not named Ken Shamrock? Sorry, Fightlinker, why are you so in love with these two losers? You need to get off your two boy’s nuts and jump on the Machida bandwagon! Still plenty of room on it right now. Once Machida knocks Tito’s bubblehead off, you can tell everyone you’re an original fan! Yeah, come on FL!!!

  • Fightlinker Jackal says:

FL never said anything about his wetdreams of Tito Ortiz. He only argued that from a business standpoint they’re shooting themselves in the foot.

  • Accomando says:

The only concern the UFC should have is not letting Tito go to the competition. That should be their priority.

Realistically though, who might offer more money to Tito than the UFC?

  • dulljake says:

I’d get off Tito’s nuts, but they’re so damn warm….

  • Márcio says:

I like Tito, everyone who’s banging Jenna Jameson on a regular basis is ok by me. But the fact remains that he hasn’t won his last two fights being that his last fight was against Rashad Fucking Evans! If he wants to be paid better he has to perform better and that simply isn’t happening.
That said, if I was Dana White I would be all over myself trying to make people like Randy, Tito and Andrei very happy, after all they are some of the guys that helped build the UFC. But being that Dana doesn’t give a fuck about anyone but himself I’m not surprised.
To all the whiny little bitches that were all over Randy when he quit the UFC, I hope you are able to recognize a pattern… like that hot blond bitch used to say: LEAVE RANDY ALONE!

  • operator says:

Tito stands up for the lower tier fighters he is always mentioning how much they get paid he sticks his neck out on a regular basis. I’ve never heard Chuck say shit about anyone elses pay. Tito will only get worse though if they let him go and I hope these aren’t just negotiating tactics on his part. He likes to get his big head on TV so maybe he will sit back and wait to see who gets a TV deal.

  • danaunclefesterwhite says:

Yeah Tito Ortiz has to be given credit for sticking up for the lower-tier fighters in the UFC. He’s been the most vocal about fighter pay. Randy Couture brought up the same subject later on but that may have been PR damage control. Tito has been criticizing the payscale for years and yet Randy only spoke up recently.

It would be interesting to see where Tito Ortiz goes though. Doesn’t Tito Ortiz make at least a million a fight with PPV bonuses added on? Or was that only for the big fights? I would think that his biggest paychecks would be in the UFC.

  • Fightlinker Jackal says:

I have pimples on my back bigger than his nipples…

  • I think he ended up with around 1.5mil for the Chuck fight. I’m too exhausted to look it up though so yheah that’s a disclaimer right there

  • Big D says:

DOn’t forget about bobalu he really did it to himself but they could have suspended him and not cut him. I bet Tito ends up with Elite there he can fight ken and frank again and babalu while they develop some talent

  • ilostmydog says:

Tito’s just upset that he can’t fight someone who he’s already beaten.
