This is why I hate Japan

Fuck you, Japan. More specifically, fuck your MMA promoters who have their heads up their asses. I dunno if it’s Mr Sparkle or Godzilla or a moderately intelligent bowl of ramen noodles booking the fights for K-1 HEROs, but whoever the hell is in charge needs to commit sepuku right now. See here:

The return of Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto was announced Friday at a press conference in Tokyo, ending a nine-month spell that had kept the popular fighter out of the ring while he pursued a bid with Japan’s Olympic wrestling team, then recovered from a elbow injury sustained in its Trials.

Yamamoto (15-1-0) is scheduled to participate at Sept. 17’s “OLYMPIA HERO’S 2007” in a “Superfight” main event bout agianst Bibiano Fernandes (1-1-0). Yamamto won last by TKO over Istvan Majoros at the “K-1 – Premium 2006 Dynamite!!” New Year’s show.

You may not know Kid Yamamoto … if you don’t, check him out here. A big part of why you don’t know him is because he keeps getting booked to fight terrible fighters with terrible records. Why is one of the best featherweight fighters in the world fighting a guy who’s 1-1-0? For that matter, what was up with his last fight against wrestler Istvan Majoros? According to the Shitdog Fightfinder, this guy’s first and only fight was against Kid.

Seriously, Japan. Smarten up and start booking some good fights. Sure, PRIDE was almost as bad at booking matches, but at least they booked freakshows. If you’re going to put Kid against a dude with no MMA experience, at least make him fight a 400 pound monster or something.

  • Matt says:

    Is that Bsouth?

  • Royal B. says:

    Fast fact:

Big Ten Wrestling was majorly drooling over KID when he was going to high school in the US. If he went to a Big Ten college, Shawn Sherk would have been just this kid from Minnesota, cause I can garentee that KID would have beaten him.

  • intenso says:

where did he go to high school?

  • Royal B. says:

    Somewhere in Socal.

  • If you haven’t figured it out by now, the intent of HERO’s have always been to put on lopsided match in favor of keeping the “Japanese mythologies” alive.

e.g. they want to keep that image of Saku as an indefeated Japanese star so they book fighters with shitty records or is a bad match-up for Sak as well as favorable refs.

  • It is great that you brought up this topic b/c I have another mythology for you:

Also to note is the overall “Asian TMA mythologies.” Jet Li said “Hero” was his last kung fu movie although he didn’t state why but you can sure guess why: he does not want to continue making these kung fu movies when the sport of MMA are terrorizing the likes of TMA and Pro-wrestling. Imagine how a Chinese kid would feel if he finds out that a big black man such as Rampage or a mohawk white man with a beer belly (Chuck Liddell) can KTFO Jet Li as easily as Kevin Arnold getting harrassed by his family in the Wonder Years.

It is quite funny that Jet Li’s “Romeo Must Die” had a scene where he fought Chuck Liddell in an underground cage fighting match and he were running against the cage like in the matrix and ended up KOing Liddell so hard that the entire cage fell apart.

Also on a radio show, Jet Li was promoting his last Kung Fu movie “Hero” when after he went off air, the next radio guest was a MMAist. Li made no comment at the booming MMA sport, and undertook to completely be in denial. It is the equivalent of an Arab terrorist trying to blend in with the Chinese in the streets after he blew up a Chinese government building and denied that he has nothing to do with it. Can you now say that Mr. Li is dodging reality?

Why don’t we now all just put TMA, Kung Fu, HERO’s, and pro-wrestling all under the category of “make-belief fighting?”

  • Excuse my mistake the movie was not “Romeo Must Die” but “Cradle 2 the Grave.”

  • sha says:

I fail to see the relation between Kid Yamamoto and Jet Li. I guess your point was that they are both asian, so somehow it makes a lot of sense to draw a parallel between a movie actor and an athlete ?

But anyway Bibiano Fernandes is a jujitsu world champion or something, and had a competitive fight with Urijah Faber (taking his back at one point). So this could be a good fight.

  • Royal B. says:

    This fight ain’t shit.

It’s padding. K-1 would book KID vs. Bozo if it was a viable option for them.

  • intenso says:

That whole post was fucking weird. And where the hell did that Wonder Years reference come from? Been overdosing on TV Land lately?

  • Jonathan says:

I would like to see KID Yamamoto fight a higher caliber of opponents.

  • Matto says:

Hey Millen, there’s an interview with Jet Li about that cage fighting scene and he quite humbly and accurately says that those guys could kick his ass in a heartbeat. So shut it. And your hair sucks.

  • Jordan Breen says:

I believe KID’s high school tenure was spent in Arizona, where he won three state titles, but Royal is on the money with the collegiate recruiting.

  • penxv says:

kid went to high school in arizona and I believe that he fought that Majoros dude (who I think was an olympic gold medalist in greco-roman wrestling) in order to hype his olympic bid.
