Georges St Pierre vs Carlos Condit doesn’t seem to be all that interesting to most mainstream media outlets and casual fans. But Georges vs Anderson Silva certainly makes people pay attention, so it should be no surprise that Dana White continues to talk that fight up to anyone who asks. On ESPN’s SportsCenter (transcribed by MMA Weekly):
“(Silva) always comes out and says this stuff. I don’t know why he does it or why he says the things he says,” White remarked. “I guarantee you, he will be there Saturday. If Georges St-Pierre wins, those two will fight and it’ll probably be in May.”
“Anderson Silva will be there this Saturday watching, and if (St-Pierre) wins, it’ll be a huge fight for us,” White commented. “It’ll probably be the biggest fight in UFC history; definitely be the biggest gate. We’ve had big gates pretty much everywhere we’ve gone, but this one would be either a soccer stadium down in Brazil, Dallas Texas Stadium, or we’d do Toronto again.”
“We’re curious to see what we could do,” he said. “We’ve been wanting to bring a fight (to Cowboys Stadium) for a long time. This fight would be the fight to do it. Hopefully we’d sell it out.”
Keep in mind Dana White has also claimed he’s never actually sat down with either Georges or Andy regarding this fight. Bring the fight up with St Pierre and he asks if you can go back to asking him about his inability to finish opponents. And Anderson Silva is acting like a guy who’s breaking up with a chick. “Oh, you want to see me in February? Yeah, I’m busy. Probably gonna be busy till September or something.”
At the very least we’re hitting a point where GSP can’t hide behind an upcoming opponent and Dana White has to put up or shut up. El Baldo Presidente has said over and over that the fight is going to happen, and hanging in the balance is our faith that superfights like this are even possible now that the top names in ultimate fighting are making enough money to say no.
