There was a post earlier today here at Fightlinker relaying news from The Sun that Forrest Griffin could be sitting out the majority of 2009 due to injury. The validity of the Sun’s statements was questioned and, as it turns out, the criticism was correct: The Sun is full of shit.
MMAWeekly reports that sources close to Griffin’s camp say his recovery is going well and the former light heavyweight champion is aiming to return in the summer. The division should see a lot of action between now and then, as Shogun Rua is set to rematch Mark Coleman this weekend, Lyoto Machida will square off with Thiago Silva at UFC 94 to determine a new top contender to the belt, Keith Jardine is heavily rumored to meet the surging Luiz Cane at UFC 97, and Rampage Jackson will likely get the first crack at new champion Rashad Evans. With those fights in mind, as well as any others that might take place over the next few months, it’s too early to speculate on potential opponents for Griffin as the pecking order of the division could be very different by the summer. Even so, I do have one suggestion: the editor of the Sun.
Hey Sun, cut the shit. Here’s your chance to go ahead and print some type of retraction saying that your “industry insider” was misinformed. Go ahead. I’ll wait.
