The Low BLow Episode 181: UFC 126 post-show

This week Jake and I break down UFC 126 – a crapton on Anderson, the kick, Steven Seagal, and where Vitor’s mind was leading up to this fight. From there it’s on to Rich vs Giant Griffin, and where this leaves both of them in the 205 pound division. We make sweet love to Jon Jones in celebration of his sudden title shot, and of course speculate on how Shogun Rua will look upon his return to the Octagon. The thrashing of Japanese fighters, Miguel Torres’ jabby performance, and more are discussed in this 1 hour 10 minute show.

  • Shibo says:

That faceoff pic with Anderson and Vitor standing on a mountain is just begging to be a .gif of anderson kicking Vitor off of the mountain. I wish I had those kinds of skills.

  • Redping says:

the discussion about the anderson silva fight being like an 18 year old boy having sex for the first time – memorable, but short, with a big explosion at the end – was pure genius

  • Redping says:

also you two are both morons for thinking jones is going to beat shogun.

jones has beat RYAN BADER, and KEITH JARDINE, he’s never been hit properly by anyone. Shogun hits properly

  • Rikers says:

^jones never fought the dean of mean

  • Rikers says:

Another great show gentlemen!! Thanks. It helps me get through my work day. Oh and I am totally on board for “FUCK that fight”!!

And no way Jones beats Rua! Maybe in 2-3 years but not yet.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

There are so many ?’s coming into the Shogun vs Bones fight its not even funny. Will Shogun be 100 or even 80% ready to perform, is Jones being rushed to capitalize on his burgeoning star power.

And am I to believe that you guys really didn’t like 126 or is this the standard fightlinker contrarian viewpoint that you guys exercise whenever the majority feel very strongly about a card. Like you guys praising 119: Mir vs Cro Cop while the rest of the mma world was bashing it.

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

I enjoyed the show and 126.

  • Redping says:

I really didn’t enjoy 126, I found every fight to be a bore, especially the ones that WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO BE. The only decent fights was Taylor’s intense knockout rampage, and Kelly/Cerrones awkward slug fest. Franklin/Griffin’s let down of a fight, and Torres’s let down of a fight, were enough to overrule the 1 good round in the ellenberger fight. Overall it was one of the worst cards in a long time, at least the okami vs marquardt card had SEAN PIERSON VS MATT RIDDLE. They tried to rely on the bantams being great on this card and it backfired for the first time since the bantams ever existed – are WEC playing it safe now? that’s a concern

I really don’t see how you can think Shogun will come in out of shape, when he was only out of shaped after his surgery for the forrest and coleman fights, and from liddel/machida/machida he was in top notch form, and destroyed the undefeated (albeit over-hyped) Machida pretty convincingly the second time. Yeah he did his knee but he’s not Cro Cop, he didn’t do a pirouette inside of his own body and fuck himself permanently.

Size is just not that much of an advantage when its cro cop. See Fedor vs Bigfoot Silva. Size matters in even matches, like Franklin/Griffin. Not in a squash match like this

Hell, I don’t evn think Jones would beat Machida

  • Blackula Jonez says:

I favor a healthy Shogun over damn near every fighter at 205, but you just can’t say for certain what guy will show up.

Bones crushing wrestlers after he puts them on their backs is good for fighting other wrestlers. But were Hammil, V-Mat and Bader known for their offensive and defensive bjj guards?

Shogun’s biggest hole has always been his defensive wrestling, but he has made up for it with his offensive guard, leg locks and uncanny ability to sweep to top position.

Rua should also have a huge striking advantage but how long is this fight going to stay standing really? Bones has outstanding mma wrestling and has never been in too much trouble on the feet because of his length and ability to strike from realllly long range due to his jumpin and spinning striking arsenal.

If Rua is fully healed and ready to rock, Jones is in trouble. But if Shogun can’t threaten on the feet or off his back his belt is going to be taken violently.

  • G Funk says:

    Keep Jake, lose Subo

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

Heh-heh, Subo’s so cool he’s fucked himself over.  I actually listened to the Subbo and Snowden chunk of that other podcast -and I HATE podcasts- to see if the vibe problem was there with Snowden and it was.  I think he can’t be there with a straight man because he is a straight man.  His charm makes him seem like the entertainer, but he’s a straight man at heart.  He needs someone like Jake to play off of like Ryan does. A crazy.

I think Ryan has the advantage of working by himself because he can play goofy while also keeping the show on track and being objective so he can keep a show entertaining no matter who he’s with, but still shines with a crazy to reel in.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

I say keep Subo and use Jake for slow news/non fight weeks to punch things up.

  • G Funk says:

^NOOOOO! This show really makes me realize how much Subo sucks! Don’t listen to the Count of African decent, he doesn’t like funny anything. I don’t know what he’s doing here anyway. I’m sure MMA Junkie is more his style.
