The Happy Hour Episode 68: Matrix Kick Champ

Here’s the recording from our live WEC 53 post-event radio show. We drool over Anthony Pettis’ voodoo hoodoo, contemplate his chances against Gray Maynard, and talk shit about Dominick Cruz. We also try to further explain what bugs us about fighters who dominate but never put their opponents in danger of finishing. LOLs are had over the Cerrone / Horodeski match-up and the genius strategy of Horodeski’s corner, and we dissect the split decision between the Prince of Persia and Bart Palachzevekewakastanski.

And please excuse my factual pettis fuckup. He’s never fought in the ufc – he lost to bartimus

  • shillyer says:

damnit. Look man I said you cannot expect knock out power from the 135ers. That has nothing to do with any other stoppage. and that does not mean that KO wont happen occasionally. I also think that you shouldn’t expect tap outs from high level fighters. it is just the fact of the matter that it is a lot easier to defend a submission then to pull one off. Conclusion: the best way a 135er can stop a fight is due to a cut. Though me conclusion is not supported by any evidence whatsoever

  • Blackula Jonez says:

As I have said before, you want spectacular finishes in title fights go to strikeforce. You watch the elites in Zuffa promotions, you are seeing fighters who win way more than they lose due to their offensive and DEFENSIVE ability.

Finishing high level opponents is way harder than sitting behind a computer and typing the fucking letters or just bitching about it. These guys got to the top of their divisions because they are so good at not losing so don’t expect the grit and determination that they used to reach the zenith of their weight class to evaporate just because bloodthirsty fans can’t appreciate the sport they claim to love.

Where is the blame on Scotty for having little to no offensive options for Cruz’s style? Cruz put on a five round beating and could of easily got on a bike after round 3 and take the easy road to victory.

Fans bitch about judges not knowing the sport, maybe some so called fans need to step in the cage and see if finishing a guy is as easy as elite fighters make it look?.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

Ryan should avoid setting the precedent of doing post show corrections. I have grown used to Ryans spotty memory and erratic recall of fight stats, its part of the humor of the show.

  • MAYORofKALI says:

Awesome Pettis “Kung Fu Movie” kick! I know it must be super disappointing losing, but I’m surprised you didn’t mention that all things are possible through Christ, except a little champ-like humility from Ben Henderson.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

yeah, losing your ufc title shot, your championship belt and having your 10 fight win streak broken in a 5 round war that was lost because of a spectacular hail mary wtf cage kick = the time for humility.

But I forget how cool it is to shit on christians, so yeah, Ben Henderson is the most disrespectful fighter in the sport, he didn’t suck his opponents dick for beating him, what a sore loser.
