That darned toe injury

Dana White took a few seconds during yesterday’s UFC 135 press conference to downplay Alistair Overeem’s removal from the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. No talk about the date issue, no implication that there’s a rift growing between the UFC and Alistair. Just that darned toe issue. If only Ubereem wasn’t injured!

“He hurt his toe, pulled out of the fight,” he said. “He’s still under contract. The date that was set in September was set by Showtime, and it is what it is. We’ve got to get an alternate in there, but he’s still under contract.

“If you say you’re hurt, you’re hurt,” he continued. “What are you gonna do? There’s been a lot of that lately. If I got mad at guys who got hurt, I’d be really pissed off right now. It is what it is.”

Yeah, it’s a bullshit excuse that’s supposed to take attention away from the fact that Zuffa just completely castrated Strikeforce’s HWGP. I don’t want to put all the blame on them since Overeem’s ‘preferences’ obviously played a big role in all this as well, but by Crom I will not be fed turds while being told they’re kingsize Oh Henry bars. You think I can’t tell the difference? Turds have about half the peanuts, goddamnit.

It is what it is. Thanks Dana.

Just cut it off and move on.

I’ll tell you why I like that picture: the cage’s shadow makes Overeem’s skin look genetically camouflaged like Dagwood from Seaquest:

It would be stupid of him to open the floor for Strikeforce GP talk at the press conference for a UFC event. EVERY reporter would be completely focused on that, and ignore the fighters that they are there to promote.

It maybe a turd, but it is a simplified truth. Overeem made multiple excuses (injury, training time, respect, *cough* Steroid cycling) for not taking a fight. Zuffa made the choice to pull him. Overeem gave them the one excuse that will allow Zuffa to pull him off without possible legal repercussions.

One fighter does not mean anything in a promotion. Don’t agree with that? Look into the Elite XC, and Affliction business models.

The other half is corn disguised as nuts. Looks good till you bite into it and realize it’s just not as crunchy as it is supposed to be.
