Super Mario Yamasaki’s greatest hits

You can add Nate Quarry vs Pete Sell and Kenny Florian vs Din Thomas to the list of fights Mario Yamasaki has let go on too long. There’s nothing like watching a fighter spread eagle on the ground receiving a leaping punch to the face. Or a fighter lying face down with his hands over his face getting played like a taiko drum.

And please people, don’t think this is me not liking the violence. I fucking love it. The UFC is all about getting drunk and watching people inflict violence on eachother. If I couldn’t get that from SpikeTV, I’d probably be out at the women’s shelter screaming and kicking in doors. When things seem out of control in my life I enjoy imposing control on others. That’s my ‘thang’, you dig?

So yeah, I love to see that kinda stuff, and Mario’s always good for letting it happen. Sooner or later someone’s gonna die and that’ll be really great for the sport. I can’t wait for that day … maybe it’ll be good for my site traffic!

Mabye Mario likes that kinda stuff. Don’t begrudge a guy his jollies.

  • marshal says:

What happened to the good old days when the fighters would tap after being mounted and punched in the face once.
Din Thomas is a suicidal idiot for not tapping. Better than than a pussy, I guess.

  • steve24 says:

Better to have a fight go to long then a fight cut to short. And when I mean long, I mean an extra punch or so. Not like the old UFC days.

  • Lifer says:

/agree with steve24. it’s a no-win situation for yamasaki if the fight stops early. he will receive the ire that is reserved almost entirely for Herb Dean and he doesnt want a piece of that pie.

  • Mat says:

I agree short stoppages suck but Yamasaki NEVER hits the sweet spot.. Both of those calls last night were fuckin obvious, he just sucks at his job.

  • The best was when Cecil Peoples allowed Jordan Radev to be beaten into a coma. That was brutal.

  • MJC_123 says:

The thing is Garth, Radev won as well on decision….That sneaky fuckin peoples you just never know with him as the judge….

Maybe that could be a UFC comedy skit….”oh no its peoples”…..”He aint watchin shit…fooooo”

  • marshal says:

It was tough to win with sub-zero in mk1 but he also had the best finishing move. I like Super Mario’s call on that one.

  • BigFern says:

dude….dont be a douche…letting them go a few extra seconds is cool!

  • marshal says:

    love the photo, btw.

  • MJC_123 says:

The thing is the photo of Mario, is when he cast an eye over the Gracie fighting championships is it not?….That event was so boring I would have happily let Mario turn a blind eye to someone being punched close to death.

Maybe Mario could try and incorporate some of the rings, the Gracie family originally wanted to make his job easier sure he’d be up for the ol’ Barb wire, alligators, knives etc.

  • intenso says:

you can’t tap and look like a pussy when your boss is a mark

  • fightlinkerReader says:

In hindsight, the Florian- Thomas fight should have been stopped earlier. But at the time I was watching it, I agreed with Yamasaki’s decision. I didn’t see the leg injury, nor anything else that would rock Thomas. My whole thought process was “what is Thomas doing?” rather than “is he intelligently defending himself?”

The Quarry – Sell decision was really bad. He stepped in, interfering with Quarry’s movement, then allowed Quarry to continue.

  • Tommy says:

I really don’t see Mario letting these two fights go too far. Better that then ‘first one to fall loses’ Herb Dean. If it was Herb he would have stopped the fight when Pete dropped Nate. Anyway Mario went to stop the Pete Nate fight when Pete raised his feet in defense so why not let it go for a minute to see if Pete could recover as fast and come back as Nate did. As well there is no way Mario could have noticed Din’s knee and nothing was that devastating from behind. Being at home is a real advantage sometimes watching the fight from different angles with instant replay and shit.
