Well, Coker pulled a fast one on fuckers like me. Strikeforce’s triumphant press release, via Reuters:
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ — The CBS Television Network will return
to the mixed martial arts (MMA) cage with STRIKEFORCE: FEDOR VS. ROGERS, to be broadcast Saturday, Nov. 7 (9:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT). SHOWTIME Sports
will produce the four-fight event with host Gus Johnson calling the action and
MMA legend Frank Shamrock and Mauro Ranallo serving as color analysts.
There are still some minor logistical details to iron out – such where the freaking thing is happening (Strikeforce’s usual haunt at the HP Pavilion is booked by the San Jose Sharks), but hey! We have a date and a network TV deal, so that pretty awesome. Two quick notes:
- Strikeforce: Fedor Vs. Rogers? M-1’s not even in the title? Did they really accept less than they were demanding from the UFC (ie, full co-promotion) because… why, exactly? Their hatred of money? Strikeforce’s deep heavyweight division? Or does this just confirm our suspicion that “co-promote” actually just means “you give us half, da?”
- God I hate listening to Gus Johnson call fights. At least Goldberg knows enough to know he doesn’t know enough.
Oh and one more: Don’t use those creepy skinless 3D models to break down fights. Fedor and Rogers aren’t exactly the same body type.
