StandGate this morning
His holiness Dave Meltzer adds to the pile by saying he had heard about Seth Petruzelli's 'Stand for more pay' agreement before Seth opened his stupid mouth and talked about it on the radio. He also says he thinks the situation is as sketchy as it sounds and there should be an investigation.
Bryan Alvarez hears that Seth Petruzelli was just getting the same deal as Ken Shamrock ... that's right: Ken was getting paid more to stand and trade with Kimbo Slice as well.
Over at Bloody Elbow, the guys are calling for the Florida Athletic Commission to investigate EliteXC for fight fixing.
EliteXC's Jeremy Lappen spoke to Sherdog and had this to say:
"Obviously we didn't pay [Petruzelli] to stand," EliteXC Head of Fight Operations Jeremy Lappen told Sherdog.com on Monday when informed of Petruzelli's comments. "Kimbo had trained for months to fight a guy who's fighting on the ground. We don't care if people stand or take people down or what. It doesn't matter to us. All we want is an exciting fight."
Now all we need is for a major news organization to pick this story up and MMA gets tarred and feathered with the boxing commission brush. Just fucking great. One question though: If Seth hadn't opened this big old can of worms, would Meltzer and Alvarez have spoken up about all this? I don't want to call their character into question ... I'm just wondering if it's a case of having heard shit like this before but without some kind of extra proof, they were unwilling to run with the story.
