Setanta now showing all UFC events live

Wow, looks like it’s UK day here at Fightlinker. Here I was earlier today saying Marshall Zelaznik wasn’t allowed to wear the big boy pants and now he’s announcing a better TV deal for the UK than we get in the US and Canada:

There is no better place to be a UFC fan than the British Isles, according to UFC UK division president Marshall Zelaznik.

He made the comment after the UFC concluded a deal with cable broadcaster Setanta to show every UFC event live.

The deal sees Setanta become the exclusive broadcast partner of the UFC in the UK and Ireland and marks the first time that fans will be able to watch every UFC live as it happens.

“Ever since I starting coming to the UK in late 2006, fans have been asking me why they couldn’t see the big US fights live on British TV,” said Zelaznik.

“Well, now they can see every single live UFC event, whether it is the super-cards like UFC 86, 87 or 88, a special event like Anderson Silva v James Irvin on July 19, a UFC Fight Night card or the finale of the latest series of the Ultimate Fighter reality program.”

“If anything, the UK and Irish fans now have it even better than American fans, because they get every single UFC programme all on the same channel for a tenner a month.”

Meanwhile us schmucks over here are dishing out 50 bucks for every pay per view event. Boo-urns.

what’s a tenner a month? and i see every ufc events on ppv too? on directv the ppv is always on channel 123..i don’t see the problem?

  • LastPhoenix says:

Except now you can stream it live via SopCast. Not to condone watching MMA events illegally, of course. :)

  • A tenner a month is roughly $20. It’s a premium cable channel that we have to subscribe to

The thing is we just really don’t have the PPV culture here in the UK – it just doesn’t work

    Don’t ever change.

i don’t see a need to bitch about it. good for them.

  • Rhett Moir says:

but…if you have virgin media you get setanta free on their basic package!

  • iamphoenix says:

but there’s nothing to do about it…the only time they’ll watch it is when bisping is on…so that’s like, 2 or 3 times a year

    What?

  • Shane says:

Great news for the UK. The only downer is that all the UFC supercards will feature ad breaks between rounds and fights.

I am confused because on Dishnetworks website I can order this channel for $14.99 a month.

    Is this a different channel?

God, you’re a closed-minded dick. Americans are the only ones who know about MMA, right?

I agree with carcass, us Brits will watch any fighting any time, even cage rage!

  • Beau says:

I wanna know more about Derreks question. If that’s true then I’ll be switching to Dish Network.

  • I’m pretty sure the Setanta that’s broadcast internationally isn’t the same as the one on UK networks. But it’s worth emailing Setanta to see.

  • Fatal Error says:

Wait, did you say “boo” or “boo-urns”?

no i’m not. see that was a joke because the ufc thinks that bisping is the ONLY fighter they want to see. soooo yeah, i win. you lose because i win, which makes you the loser. losers lose and winners win. and i’m a winner because you lost.
