Scott Coker says more stupid stuff

Not content to jerk us around with 3 round / 5 round talk and the heavyweight belt being in the Strikeforce tournament / not being in the Strikeforce tournament, Scott Coker is now talking about places the tournament probably won’t be:

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker this past week told Radio ( that both Ontario, Canada, and Tokyo are under consideration as host cities for the Showtime-televised competition, which kicks off Feb. 12 at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J.

“This is a world grand-prix tournament, which means we might not just be in the United States,” Coker said. “This thing could be traveling.”

Yeah, I guess I could see Canada happening maybe. But Japan? Really? Am I really supposed to think that could possibly happen? What’s the point of saying shit like this when there’s virtually no chance of it ever going down? Is it Scott Coker just unable to control the things that come out of his mouth? A slow news week blowing comments out of proportion? Both? Why can’t I stop asking questions? I think my brain is broken? God damn you Scott Coker??????

  • scissors61 says:

Gee, I wonder what fighters they’ll want to book for the Japan card. I swear this motherfucker wakes up every morning and asks himself, “How can I make my life ten times more difficult?”

  • pewnt says:

If your fights don’t keep your promotion in the headlines…..make shit up!

  • agentsmith says:

Could this have anything to do with Mr. Barnett’s licensing issues? Tune in next week on As The Shitshow Turns!

  • CAP says:

Yeah at Barnett’s request? Although having Overeem and Barnett on a card in Japan doesn’t seem too crazy to me. Just suspicious.

  • G Funk says:

If Fedor, Alistair and Barnett fight on the same card in Japland then I don’t think they need anything else going on to break MMA attendance records.

  • Symbul says:

IIRC he floated the idea on the SRN as well. I’m just gonna go ahead and ignore it.

  • pewnt says:

    G Funk

That would be fucking brilliant !! The logistics would be insane, but if they could pull it off…..

I would love to see those three in Japan just to gauge the strength of the current JMMA scene.

  • GoldenArms says:

the Japanese may be the only ppl who want to watch Barnett fight

  • glassjawsh says:

^ dumb, if he fought overeem or fedor, fans would be falling all over themselves to watch

  • Oontyex says:

could barnet avoid getting tested for juice if they do his fights in japan?? 😉

  • scissors61 says:

If Fedor, Alistair and Barnett fight on the same card in Japland then I don’t think they need anything else going on to break MMA attendance records.
Wouldn’t even come close to breaking the 70K set by the K-1/PRIDE show in 2002. Guaranteed.

  • G Funk says:

^ Well then lets say it’ll do well, kay?

  • Bear Cavalry says:

There sounds like there is a A LOT of shenanigans going on already. I just hope that Strikeforce can even pull this whole damn thing off, seems like an uphill battle already for them.

  • Mixed Martial Adam says:

There is NO WAY that Strikeforce can pull this off successfully – there are way too many variables that could fuck the tournament. I expect the first round to go down normally, followed by injuries, contract disputes and general disarray which will either cause it all to end meekly or dissolve entirely.

Scott Coker seems way too comfortable soaking up the media spotlight that has focused on the HW tournament. For a company who has little to no control over their fighters this is a very dangerous game indeed as the media focus will be on the tournament and not the organization hosting it. If the tournament fails, so will any hope of being anything other than a regional promotion as they will have already played their high card(s) and lost.

There is no doubt that right now Strikeforce has the most interesting HW division in MMA. I just wonder if a bracketed tournament was the a better choice than just setting up HW’s with regular contenders matches to fight for an ACTUAL title?

  • frickshun says:

HEY JACKALS!! I’m hosting a huuuuuge party for the finals of the StrikeFarce Heavyweight Showcase Showdown!! There’s gonna be food, booze, naked/drunk Penthouse chicks, drugs, conjoined twins dressed as the conjoined monsters from Sesame Street that always argue, loud noises, a bungee jump made out of girdles & Port-A-Pottys!!

Location TBD but I’m considering The Lost City of Atlantis, The Moons of Endor, Smurf Village, inside Jenna Jamison’s vagina or possibly my house….

WHO’S IN?? (nominal $500 cover charge)

  • Reverend Clint says:

you should hold it in the dimension where Tito is still good and Fedor has never fought a can. aka 2002

  • frickshun says:

    That’s not even realistic!!

  • glassjawsh says:

i stopped reading after the part about the titties hanging out….who do i make the check out to?

  • Reverend Clint says:

i know tito was never good and fedor has always been fighting cans

  • thingvolds says:

“i know tito was never good and fedor has always been fighting cans

tito was winning mma titles and winning in abu dhabi more than ten years ago. did you even know what mma was ten years ago?

  • glassjawsh says:

^ you’re a dick, he was like 13 10 years ago, just because you’re aware of something for a long time DOES NOT make you more knowledgeable than someone who hasn’t been around as long. WE GET IT, YOU’RE FUCKING OLD AND WEIRD and you base your self worth on how “hard” and “OG”you can make yourself seem on online MMA Forum. now go suck a Bloody Elbow cock

  • agentsmith says:

“did you even know what mma was ten years ago?”

Sure, but we called it human cockfighting in those days.

  • frickshun says:

The crazy thing is that when I got back into MMA, it was the time that Tito was still headlining!! Sherdog used to be my friend for clips back then…..

  • GoldenArms says:

no one in the states is going to pay $$$ to watch Brett Rodgers vs Josh Barnett. Take his steroid fueled, pro wrasslin ass to Japan

  • Reverend Clint says:

ha thanks for having my back jawsh… just because someone has been following something for many years doesnt make you any more knowledgeable than a person who is relatively new. a retard could watch football for 40 years and not get it the same way a normal child could after watching it for a day. you sir are that retard.

oh and tito sucks and has always sucked… his opponents just sucked more than he did

  • nutty says:

I see sh*tting on strikeforce is the thing to do on fightlinker. When are you’ll gonna cut strikefarce mess dana hasn’t said that sh*t since the first time he said it its getting old & cliche. Anyway you’ll do know coker has close ties with a lot of people in japan. The man has copromoted & promoted I don’t know how many k1 & kickboxing event out there. Plus he obviously has a close working relationship with dream. Most of the fighters in sf have fought in japan & has a pretty nice following out there namely fedor, overeem, barnett, khartonirov, mousasi & hendo & plenty other. So it would be easy to get Japanese fans interested especially with the SF grand prix event. Now it would definitely be hard for coker to put a event together in japan but if anybody can pull it off he can.

  • iamphoenix says:

    you’re fucking stupid.

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

c’mon Fenix, each side always comes into FL sayin’ Ahh, I see yer shittin’ on [MySide] you are all so … blah blah blah nuthugger blah blah blah hatin’ …
