Rumble out, Story in at UFC Live 4

Another UFC card, another main event shuffle.  Anthony Johnson was set to give Nate Marquardt a thorough welcoming to the upper end (in more than one sense) of the 170-lb division at UFC Live 4 on June 26th, but Rumble went and blew out his right rotator cuff and is down to 20-30% mobility in that shoulder.  So stepping up to face Marquardt on just over 3 weeks notice is Rick “The Horror” Story, fresh off his upset victory over Thiago Alves last Saturday.

Story has now rattled off six straight wins (4 of which were decisions) since dropping his UFC debut to John Hathaway back in 2009.  Alves was already considered a pretty big step up in competition for him, and if he beats Marquardt on short notice, I guess we’ve got some fresh blood in the title centender mix.

The complete card for UFC Live 4 on Versus is below.  Again, I hope they do the Facebook stream for this one, cause those prelims look fairly stacked.

Nate Marquardt vs. Rick Story
Patrick Barry vs. Cheick Kongo
Martin Kampmann vs. John Howard
Matt Mitrione vs. Christian Morecraft

Tyson Griffin vs. Manny Gamburyan
Joe Stevenson vs. Javier Vasquez
Joe Lauzon vs. Curt Warburton
Matt Brown vs. Rich Attonito
TJ Grant vs. Charlie Brenneman
Charles Oliveira vs. Nik Lentz
Matt Grice vs. Ricardo Lamas
Michael Johnson vs. Edward Faaloloto

Poor Nate is gonna get wrestlefucked again.

  • FiveBoltMain says:

If ricky wins, they should give him Fitch, Shields, or any other top 5 WW. Then it’s on to get GSP’ed.

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

If he wins, Fitch should be next.  Just because Fitch was a bitch.

  • warriorpower says:

If he beats Marquardt, he will have beaten a top 5 welterweight and a top 5 middleweight back to back in a month and be on a 7 fight win streak. No reason to let Fitch or Shields dry hump him first – give him GSP.

  • Nachtfalter says:

That’s a great fight for Ricky. As much as I love him, Nate’s defensive wrestling is terrible and I don’t give him much of a chance at all to beat Horror Story. If it happens like that, I don’t see any point in having Story fight Jon Fitch. I agree with warriorpower, with back-to-back wins over Thiago Alves and Nate Marquardt, he’s ready for GSP. Hell, Nick Diaz is getting a title fight off of victories over Paul Daley and Cyborg fucking Santos and didn’t Dan Hardy get one after beating Marcus Davis? Rick’s record is better than Hardy’s will ever be already.

  • Blackula Jonez says:

what warriorpath said, if story gets by nate he earned his title shot.

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

I agree with the immediate shot if only because it will piss off Fitch and give GSP a different wrestler to fight.

  • frickshun says:

I’m scared for Nate. HOW THE FUCK IS HE MAKING 170?????
