For those of you who come here and nowhere else for your MMA news (how terrifying of a thought is that!), I have to admit that I have failed in keeping you in the know. On Saturday it was announced that Quinton Jackson and Keith Jardine would be fighting at UFC 96 in March, saving the Buckeye state from having Gabriel Gonzaga vs Shane Carwin as a headlining fight.
I know what you’re thinking … what the fuck is up with this bout? Well, the UFC needed something that didn’t suck since they’ve made the March show in Ohio an annual thing. Rashad Evans didn’t want to fight again so soon, but Quinton is a fighter that would rather fight more than less. So he fit, and while Jardine isn’t exactly a drool-worthy opponent, he’s got the resume to earn Rampage a title shot if he wins.
Unfortunately, Dana White has failed to learn that whenever he books a fight with a certain result in mind, shit goes haywire and ‘his fighter’ ends up losing. Sure, ‘his fighter’ is usually Chuck Liddell but there’s been many other examples of best laid plans going awry in situations like this.
Anyways, here’s the rumored UFC 96 card as it stands now:
-Quinton Jackson (#3 Light Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Keith Jardine (#7 Light Heavyweight in the World)*
-Gabriel Gonzaga (#8 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Shane Carwin
-Matt Hammil vs. Mark Munoz
-Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller
-Dustin Hazelett vs. Ben Saunders
-Brandon Vera vs. Mike Patt
-Kendall Grove vs. Jason Day
-Aaron Riley vs. Shane Nelson
-Jason Brilz vs. Tim Boetsch
-Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell
-David Bielkheden vs. TBA
