Rampage Jackson gets Ryan Bader in Japan

Continuing their trend of putting together underwhelming fights for their Return to Japan show*, the UFC has announced Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson vs Ryan Bader. Quinton on the card was a no-brainer since PRIDE spent a lot of it’s glory days promoting him as crazy homeless man to adoring Japanese fans. Ryan Bader … well, let’s just say there will be no sections of fans chanting ‘Baderu!’ from the stands.

I try not to get all wah wah about fight bookings that don’t stroke my fight boner. But a lot of us dumb fools secretly hoped that the UFC would go Full Japan and set up some stuff that would magically transport us back to those giddy Yokohama days of 2003. But this is so UFC goes to Portland. Yushin Okami vs Tim Boetsch and Hatsu Hioki vs Bart Palaszewski. Now Rampage vs Bader. It’s all so … responsible and by the books. Doesn’t the UFC know it has Kinnikuman vs Bob Sapp to compete with?

*Edgar / Henderson being an awesome fight that still makes no sense for Japan

Oh dear Spaghetti Monster, I hope Bader beats that idiot’s ass. Granted, Darth will be a rightful underdog, but Quinton has become so unbelievably one-dimensional that I could see him losing. The last time he looked impressive in any way, form or fashion was against Wanderlei. That’s almost three years ago. THREE YEARS. Since then he came close to losing to Keith Jardine (that’s Keith F’n Jardine, ladies and gentlemen), lost to Rashad, had nothing for Machida (don’t get me started on the retarded decision), sleepwalked his way through a fight with a Matt Hamill on the verge of retirement and got clowned from A-Z in a titleshot he had no business getting. Impressive stuff. Impressively depressing, that is. People talk about Wanderlei or Big Nog being shells of their former selves. Rampage is right up there. He’s not even 50% of what he once was and I don’t think he can beat a healthy, top-level UFC competitor anymore. We’ll see if Bader is on that level. Since I pretty much think the Tito thing was a complete fluke, I think he is.

By the way, I want a radio show. Give it to me! NOW! NOOOOW!!

  • Mixed Martial Adam says:

Finally – a fight (location) that Rampage might actually get motivated for…

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

He’s motivated for alla them – until he can’t bully someone.   And then he goes back to a corner without Juanito in it.  Then he folds.

  • P W says:

Finally I can see DJ:s “new” Hulk Hogan avatar!

  • Redping says:

finally we can see if Rampage still has the ability to KO people. Haven’t seen him fight somebody with a bad chin since he fought jardine as a fatty. I get the feeling if Rampage can crumble a noob with his hands he’ll regain some momentum in the cage. at least his loss to jones was a lot less demoralising than pulling half-guard

  • glassjawsh says:

the People who thought machida beat rampage are the same as the dummies who thought shogun beat hendo. “herp…but he won the last round!!!! (forgets the rest of the fight happened) derrrrrp!”

  • Reverend Clint says:

^is like a football game in which one team scores 0 touch downs until the last quarter… obviously the winner right?

  • G Funk says:

That must be the shortest comment Adam has ever posted!

  • CAP says:

Lame fight but hopefully Rampage gets a KO.

  • unclefesterdanawhite says:

Yeah I agree that Baderu is out of place. I really wish the UFC gave their Japan show a true PRIDE feel and not this half-baked shit. Complete with Lorenzo Fertitta or Dana White in a diaper banging drums.
