Long time readers know I’m all over Paul Daley’s cock. He’s got it all … an exciting fighting style, the right attitude, and a totally hot girlfriend. He was also being groomed to be one of EliteXC’s main stars, with rumors of a title shot already swirling around him.
Unfortunately, it looks like none of that is going to be happening very soon any more. Because Paul Daley is apparently retiring at the ripe old age of 25:
This much is known. Paul fought in a Muay Thai fight on Sunday 24th in his hometown of Nottingham. He won, but sustained a broken hand. He didn’t turn up to pro training session at his home gym, the Bushido Academy this morning. Today at 2.30pm, he posted the following message.
“As of now I will be stepping down as Cage Rage Champion (British and world), FX-3 Champion and KOTR champion. I vacate all these titles. Further more I consider myself retired (from all MMA/Thai boxing) as of March 29th. March 29th I will fulfil my contracted commitment for Pro Elite, against a yet unnamed opponent.
“No speculation, No further announcements, once I’ve found the path I originally set out on in the Martial Arts, I may return to this SPORT, Maybe 6months, maybe 6 years, who knows.”
Hywel Teague bemoans the fact in his blog that Daley decided to make the announcement on his own rather than through the standard journalistic channels (ie HIM). I can’t say I disagree to a certain extent, because if a decent reporter had been on the case, you know we’d have at least a bit more information regarding this strange turn of affairs than we do now. My bet is this is exactly why Daley decided to make his own statement – whatever’s going on in his head isn’t anything he wants to share.
