What the hell is going on in Brazil? First our Sambadrome stadium dreams are dashed because of f*cking noise complaints, and now it sounds like our chances of seeing Chael Sonnen ripped limb from limb by an angry crowd of South Americans is also decreasing rapidly. From GracieMag:
Filming of the TUF Brazil reality show is going full steam. As is the tradition, in the final episode of the show, the coaches of the two teams face off, and that’s just what Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva are set to do, in one of the most long-awaited rematches of all times.
The showdown between the two will likely be the main event, as it is rumored that the rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen will no longer be in Brazil.
The final of the reality show was planned for a soccer stadium in São Paulo—Pacaembu Stadium—, but the idea was nixed. When queried about the venue for the TUF final, at the post UFC 144 press conference, Dana White said it had yet to be determined.
“We’re working on it.”
The mystery continues…
Is there something that’s keeping Andy vs Chael from happening in Brazil or is this just another example of the UFC spreading it’s headline-calibre fights out so it can fill the tops of it’s many, many, many cards? If that’s the case, it’s a huge mistake. I’m sure the little corporate dickface in all of us can see the appeal of having two 500k+ PPV events instead of a single 600k – 700k one, but think of the historical ramifications! Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen 2 was MEANT to happen in Brazil. The location (and the possibility of a riot) is half the excitement.
Ah well, this is all just rumor and speculation at this point, nothing to get the blowguns out for just yet. But I bet there are a bunch of Brazilians prancing and praying to their demon effigy that Anderson Silva gets his chance to crucify Chael Sonnen in their back yards. And rightfully so!
