Nick Diaz tests positive for the devil’s plant

As suspected, Nick Diaz’s UFC 143 drug test came back positive for ‘marijuana metabolites.’ NSAC head Keith Kizer made the announcement last night, and it sounds like Nick is in line for a year long suspension and a hefty fine. This isn’t the first time he’s tested positive after a fight – his THC levels were so high after the Gomi PRIDE fight that commissioners determined he was actually straight up stoned in the ring.

That incident saw Nick benched for 6 months and fined 20% of his $15,000 purse – or $3000 to yous that can’t math so good. Worse still, they overturned his totally sweet gogoplata submission win and ruled the fight a no contest. This time the worst punishment – other than the loss of a big money Condit rematch and the eventual GSP scrap – will probably be the financial hit. 20% of $200,000 is $40,000, and there is a good chance the fine will be higher because this is Nick’s second identical offense in Nevada.

The NSAC pulled the curtain back a little on their weed policy when Nick tested positive in 2007 and showed how a positive test comes to be. While a positive THC test is technically anything above 15, the NSAC doesn’t do anything unless the test number is above 50. When he fought Gomi, Nick tested positive with a whopping 175. I’m looking forward to hearing what kinda numbers he posted this time. That’ll tell us whether he just didn’t get off the reefer in time or if he was smoking that sticky icky like a fiend right up to the fight. That would have been something for the Primetime specials, wouldn’t it?

This is just traces of weed from the last time he tested positive. This man is innocent.

ANYBODY KNOW THIS GUY? i thoought it can´t get worst than silva vs maia…but the kick was niiiiice!

  • Reverend Clint says:

maybe if diaz didnt smoke so much he could afford a nice new car

  • CAP says:

^No but I can’t wait to see him get his ass KO’d fighting like that.

I would hope they would cut it some slack cuz it’s only weed but a second offense isn’t going to go over well. Yeah can’t imagine the shitstorm if he would have won and this derailed a GSP match. 209 fo life.

  • dick says:

175 isn’t that high. I’ve tested 1121 before. It was the highest the state of Wyoming had ever seen, but I did it. I know more than one person who has maxed out Colorado’s test, which only goes up to 450. Getting whatever score you get has nothing to do with whether you’re actually high at the time. It has much more to do with how concentrated your pee is and how much you’ve smoked since it’s had time to filter out of your body’s fat stores. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY they could tell he was high in the ring based on that test, especially not if he only scored 175.

  • Mixed Martial Adam says:

175 is still the highest any professional athlete has ever tested. So by that standard, it’s pretty huge…

  • frickshun says:

Ryan–>please order Subotic to drink Diaz piss for a “B sample” & see what he finds…..

  • scissors61 says:

Fake quote. Nick Diaz has never used the phrase “on the contrary” in his life

  • frickshun says:

QUICK…..someone please photoshop a top hat & monacle onto Nick Diaz so we can start a sophisticated pot head meme!!

  • Fizzy says:

Jesus this is so fucking stupid. He had traces of pot in his system. FUCKING POT! Steriods, sure that’s grounds for punishment in the context of professional competition; stimulants, yeah I can see that as well. But pot? Unless Carlos is made of chocolate and ice cream, I don’t see how this is grounds for punishment by an athletic commission (yes I am aware of America’s love affair over the last century with punishing the shit out of anyone who so much thinks about the sticky icky)

  • MPL says:

Just proves how retarded he is.

FIY I love me some weed too.

  • Petey says:

Wow, well if that’s how he feels and pot means more to him than fighting then let him just go sit in a corner somewhere and smoke while someone else who isn’t high fights. Sounds like a good plan to me.

It is unbelievable that someone with the least promising career in fighting would be so blatant about pot and think that it isn’t a big deal.

  • matthewpolly says:

Commissions need to make a distinction between performance enhancing and casual drug use. A number of fighters get drunk the night before their fights. Who cares if Diaz likes to get stoned a week out? MMA is not a pizza eating contest.

damn straight, cotton mouth cuts gotta suck
