“Never Back Down” will destroy EVERYTHING!

I’m really loving how everyone in MMA is going apeshit over Never Back Down. You honestly can’t go two threads in any forum without seeing someone freaking out about how this movie is bad for the sport and how it’s going to open the floodgate and unleash an endless amount of morons unto our ‘scene’. Hey people: Newsflash. MMA is already drowning under a sea of retards with bad attitude, bad tattoos and half a brain.

People need to stop looking at this flick as an “MMA” film, because while it’s ‘about’ MMA, it’s NOT an MMA film. You might as well be criticizing Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon for being an unrealistic representation of Kung Fu, for fuck’s sake. It’s not like “Never Back Down” is pretending to be something it isn’t (which is more than I can say for Redbelt – one armed fighting, anyone?). It’s very obvious that it’s a cheeseball popcorn flick, which is why all the reviews like this Sherdog one make me laugh:

“Never Back Down” is loud, ugly, brutal, amoral, immature — which all sounds awesome — but the film is bad for MMA. Only briefly touching on the importance of training as an end unto itself, a new audience will be introduced to MMA exactly as mainstream grandmothers see it now: dirty, seedy, sadistic and existing only to satisfy the whims of a subhuman bloodlust.

If you’re a Sherdogger, then you know MMA. If you know MMA, you’re qualified to judge “Never Back Down” differently than most. The problem for MMA fans is that we see real fights all the time. The allure of a cinematic version is simply to provide a deeper and more powerful story. Unfortunately, “Never Back Down” fails to provide anything as unique or interesting as real life.

Oh noes, this shitty film does not match the intense love hardcore fans feel for the sport of MMA. FAIL! Wait … that’s a stupid way to judge a movie. Me and Jake are hitting the thing up tonight, and we’ll report back to you if it lives up to the very clear promises it makes: violence, hot bitches, and uber-cheese.

    Your the best around………

i love sherdog, but some of the fans there are some of the most pretentious, no life having mofo’s this side of dungeons and dragons. every couple of days you can see a 32 page manifesto written by someone who’s angry about a broadcaster on a mainstream network mispronouncing fedor’s emilianenko’s name….they take this shit seriously, which in and of itself isn’t a bad thing. but instead of being happy their favorite sport is getting some recognition, they beat it to death for some abstract bullshit. it is pretty funny to read sometimes though.

we feel it will be “teh awesome”

  • Xavier says:

Nobody is going to see this movie other than a few slummy man-children, so how can it do any damage to MMA?

The people who would object to this movie are all smart enough not to see this brainless dreck to begin with. All this movie will do is launch a couple hundred thousand more ‘tards into watching MMA and in a year and a half, nobody will have remembered that this movie exists.

  • Fatal Error says:

This movie is going to do for mma what “The Fast and the Furious” did for street racing. There will be a ton more meatheads that have backyard “mma” matches where douche bags get triangled to sleep or arms popped out of sockets. In the end, we’ll have more fodder to mock on YouTube. Smokers may get cracked down on, or amateur mma may finally become a reality. Either way, doesn’t sound too bad.

Can’t blame MMA fans for going apeshit about how much this movie is going to suck. I’d blame the marketing genius who forgot that the real target audience is teenagers and instead of promoting it on Degrassi the Next Generation, decided to promote it one every single MMA related site.

  • cheezeypoof says:

Maybe this movie is going to do for MMA what Best of the Best did for Tae Kwon Do…. Probably not much. But at least the movie was totally awesome!

  • godzillad says:

Buy your ticket for Semi-Pro and sneak in to Never Back Down, don’t support the crappy movie ruining the meteoric rise of MMA.

  • x5BoltMainx says:

I would rather step into the ring w/Anderson Silva & make myself his bitch & than watch that sorry of an excuse movie 😀

  • x5BoltMainx says:

Hell yeah, Best Of The Best rules!!! Erick Roberts best role 😛 He’s so dreamy.

Show me Dim Mak!!!! No!!! Bottom one!!!!

  • cyphron says:

For a martial arts film, I can’t imagine this being that bad. Shit, I enjoyed “No Retreat No Surrender.” That movie was so bad, it’s good.

If this is just a rehash of the Karate Kid with MMA, I’m sold.

    Fight movies I love:

    Karate Kid

    Fight TV Shows:
Sidekicks starring Ernie Reyes, Jr. 86-87

  • danaunclefesterwhite says:

I’m not going to support the makers of this movie. I’m going to download this off the internets. I don’t think Never Back Down is going to kill MMA or anything. Fightlinker called it. The movie will bring even more meathead idiots with an attitude problem into our sport. It’s not like this is anything new. We have plenty of meathead morons for fans in this sport ever since TUF hit it big.

  • danaunclefesterwhite says:

I can see it now. The numbers of meat heads racing in Honda Civics with their Affliction (and the UFC’s own cheap Affliction knock offs) shirts and shitty tribal tattoos is going to skyrocket exponentially after this movie. And Sherdog is going to be an even bigger wasteland of know-it-all tough guys.
