More weight to the Mir coaching rumors

A few weeks back Cage Potato claimed that Frank Mir and Big Nog were going to be the coaches for the 8th painful season of TUF. Everyone had a good laugh and we moved on with our lives. But now the show is mere weeks away from filming, and Frank Mir is being very mum on the subject which makes me think there might be more truth to this than we once thought. I have a feeling these two guys could actually be the backup coaches in a case where the UFC can’t find anyone else.

There’s two ways to look at this news:

  1. BOO! Those are the worst choices for coaches ever! Shoot me in the fucking head!
  2. YAY! My favorite fighters aren’t tied up for the next 7 months on a reality show that’s going to suck regardless of who’s coaching.

Surprisingly enough, I’m taking the glass half full option here, because the last thing I want to see is GSP or Fitch or god knows who else stuck in limbo forever.

  • wrinkleking says:

So you don’t like watching Nog fight?

  • There’s not really anyone worth watching him fight at the moment.

  • kentyman says:

Let him beat Heath Herring for a 4th time.

  • DannyP72 says:

I love Nog but have zero desire to watch him and Frank Mir coach TUF.

  • dignan says:

I would love to see Mir, and maybe a smart smart fighter like Ivan Salaverry.

You wouldnt have a possible battle at the end, but the show could graduate into a more technically advanced show, and actually develop these fighters.

Maybe put some age limits, and have the old guys train awesome athletes without much skill previous to the show.

Maybe thats why the show has sucked so badly. Mediocre semi-pros are on the show. Sure they might end up with a better shot at sticking in the UFC, but none end up being phenoms.

  • Jeremy (not that Jeremy) says:

    How about Mir vs Florian?

    Battle of the color commentators?

  • MacDaddy says:

I think watching Nogueira trying to communicate with a bunch of american meatheads would be awesome. Maybe he’d bring along Anderson Silva as his striking coach too…

  • Popetastic says:

The show doesn’t need to sell a fight. The show doesn’t even need to exist. Time to think of some new programming ideas. TUF sucks.

And while this won’t tie up any fighters of GSP’s caliber, it does put the heavyweight championship on the back shelf for a while. Enough’s enough.

  • If they radically changed the focus of the show and actually showed some coaching or got more into the minds of the coaches, I’d be interested in seeing how Nogeuira teaches and how he thinks. The man is a living legend in the sport. Mir, not so much…

But yeah, TUF sucks and if it continues in exactly the same way as it has for the last ten million seasons, it is going to suck balls so hard that, um, your face is going to melt.
