I’m sure the Montreal-based XMMA promoters are already shitting their pants over all the fucked up stuff going on with Quebec MMA at the moment, but things just keep getting worse for them. When Strikeforce bought out ProElite’s contracts, they landed the King of Women’s MMA, Cris Cyborg. Arms were twisted and next thing ya know Cyborg was off the card. Now it looks like Phil Baroni is off as well, and as a replacement we get … Jon Koppenhaver!
Scheduled for the the XMMA’s main event, Baroni has withdrawn from “Inferno” according to an additional report from Fiveouncesofpain.com. No official reason was noted in the report.
Baroni’s contract was also recently acquired by Strikeforce, and the “New York Bad Ass” announced on the Underground, a popular mixed martial arts message board, that he would be fighting for the organization in an as-yet-unannounced May event in Seattle.
Stepping in for Baroni on short notice for the bout with undefeated Guillaume de Lorenzi (5-0) is the always-entertaining War Machine.
There’s no way War Machine is getting out of Montreal without us getting an interview. That’s almost worth losing two exciting fighters to me.
