More Dana White / Evil Empire talk (home of the Underground forum – aka where all the trolls come from) asked me to throw together a guest blog post to help promote their new ‘Wire’ service, which is kinda like a news aggregator along with some special features. Today’s special feature: my opinion on “Is the UFC helping or hurting its cause by hosting a show the same day as Affliction?”

Now I know I’ve already addressed this across a couple of posts but just like Dana White, I hone my evil skillz more and more every time I talk or write about a subject. So I managed to put together a nice blisteringly brutal opinion on the whole thing to make sure that people would ‘get’ what we’re all about over here. So go check it out and tell me what you think!

    Nice Conan quote!

I completely agree with what you said about the UFC, but I also don’t think it’s necessarily bad for the sport. Like all industries, MMA will go thorugh a life cycle. Most fledgling industries are dominated by someone that has their act together and tries to profit from it as long as they can. Dana White/Zuffa is the Bill Gates or J.D. Rockefeller of MMA right now. That won’t last, simply because we’re in a capitalistic society, and if there’s a buck to be made, there will always be someone who wants to make it. Sooner or later a higher class of business person will come into MMA, someone that knows how to profitably run a promotion besides Zuffa. It’s happened exactly that way in most industries as they mature. The young lions will either be mitigated or will be chased out entirely. Who knows – maybe that ‘higher class of businessman’ might be Donald Trump?

Good stuff. Funny and analytical. Could have included a bit more in the last paragraph’s topic of good/bad for the sport. I’d say you should have gone off on the fact that Dana dupes his fighters into working against their own best interests. No competition means lower salaries and ultimately no copromotions featuring champs from two “leagues” (and that’s the big hype/money type event that I think we’d all like to see down the road once a non-UFC promotion gets its act together.

i liked your 5 page review of “there will be blood” much better……good stuff.

    “Tell me what you think!”

I think you should drink some ipecac and film it. For the kids.

  • MOTUG says:

Dana himself couldn’t have said it better.
hmmmm does anyone remember the “dot com boom”? remind you of anything?

When are people going to realize that MMA will go as the UFC goes. Shit, the only reason any of us fuckers even have the opportunity to express our retarded opinions is BECAUSE of the UFC. MMA is only MMA because of the UFC. It is, should be, and will forever remain the pinnacle of MMA………….
