Mitchell Maxwell has no idea what he’s doing

Is there a single article out there on the new M-1 that doesn’t make warning sirens go off in my head like a WW2 air raid? Here’s the latest quote from a sycophantic Sherdog article:

“I said give me two weeks,” recounted Maxwell, who’d never heard of mixed martial arts let alone the 31-year-old Emelianenko. “Let me put together an A-List team, let’s meet together again in Amsterdam in two weeks and see if we wanna go ahead.”

The money came together quickly. Maxwell returned to Holland on Sept. 25 and signed Emelianenko, the undisputed top heavyweight in MMA, to a letter of intent before handing him a $1.5 million signing bonus.

“All of a sudden I’m in the MMA business,” Maxwell said. “Part of life is when opportunity knocks you have to know when to open the door, and I think this was a door worth opening.”

I’d been hoping the whole “We only started 10 weeks ago” thing was just swagger or bravado. I imagined them saying that was just a social gaffe because they didn’t realize how many people would look at each other and shake their heads hearing that news. But here it is again, about as explicitly as can be. And now the guy running the show is saying he DIDN’T EVEN KNOW WHAT MMA WAS?!?!?!?!

This is just the beginning, I imagine. As time goes on and we learn more, I get the feeling that we’ll be shaking our heads more and more. This big company that was supposed to compete with the UFC is looking more and more like it consists of a bunch of morons with no idea what they’re doing.

Again, it’s only Monte Cox’s involvement that makes me think otherwise. But who is to say he didn’t just get suckered in with the promise of a retarded paycheck? If someone offered me a million bucks to get on the Titanic, I’d say yes so long as I brought a wig and a dress so I could guarantee a spot on the lifeboats.

This is what Dana meant when he said, “blood-sucking hollywood agents”

This whole story is f’ed up and doesn’t make sense.

Fedor and Dana White are pieces of shit.

  • Ted Dibiase says:

brought a wig n dress? not bought?

hmmmm, you have an old halloween costume or you have other hobbies you havent told us about?

at least M1 is willing to work with other organizations. the company is either run by the russian mafia with hidden assets or its about to crumble. i loved fedor’s “i feel sorry for randy” quote. lol. fedor would destroy couture.

  • Working with other companies when you’re #1 is dumb. That’s like saying “Here, let me help you take away from my business”

  • Xavier says:

If you read up on the Phantom console in video games, you’ll see a lot of similarities. They even hired some guys from Microsoft to put out in front so it would seem legitimate. What you do is get a respected name, put him out in front, keep him in the dark about the true nature of the scam. He’ll preach all these great things about the company to investors — because he believes they’re true, it’s what he’s been told — and the investors believe him because of his pedigree. Then the investors dump money, dumb enough to not realize that a guy like Cox isn’t in charge of the cashflow and operations, a guy like Baybak is.

That’s why they hire a guy like Monte Cox in these scams, they always have a guy to put out front to be the mouthpiece, the respected “name” so it’s not a guy like Baybak asking for dough… because he’d never get it that way.

Later on the scam-corp will fold after paying themselves a whole lotta salary and who gets the stinging lasting reputation? The “Monte Cox” figurehead who is the one leading with his chin publicly.

It’s the same recipe each time. So far this appears to be a playbook investor scam company.

  • This is probably one of the most shady companies I’ve looked into recently. They have this rash of activity on their SEC reports, mostly acquiring or partnering with companies and exchanging funds that seemingly look to be chump change compared to the sudden interest in MMA. They run around partnering with Y Corporation and X Corporation to fund a theatrical show, it just seems funny to me.

It’s probably a huge money laundering operation or something.

If Baybak is actually involved, I’d be out. I reported the whole major holders report on Fight Opinion regarding his 6.3 Million Shares. I think he just wanted the price increase and he’s gonna leave it as soon as it starts to fall again.

I think Xavier and LR, and linker for that matter, are really onto something here.

I looked into the Phantom game console, hillarious stuff, and it appears like a very similar story to this “scheme” going on with Cox, Fedor, and sibling entertainment group. I mean the Phantom even had a prototype (Fedor/Cox) to make it seem soooo legit.

Fedor is Russian and could easily be duped if he was shown a contract that gave him “everything he wanted”. Maybe a little too good to be true??

Furthermore, SEG, knows that Couture cannot fight with them, but they probably lied to him too. Monte Cox doesn’t have the appearance of a businessman (overwieght and dishevled), so who know how savvy/skilled he is at business?

I don’t know what the fuck is going on.

    M-1 Global?
What a name, give me a break, they lied thier ass off to these Russians, the ruski’s should have dealt with an established American Company (UFC), now they are getting taken for a ride.

MMA is not a complicated business. It’s basically… “put a camera on the meatheads and back the fuck off.”

The business side of mma is nothing more than signing fighters, booking venues, paying off the commission, and marketing. A retarded monkey could do it.

They have Fedor… people will watch.

  • Accomando says:

“…A retarded monkey could do it…”

The WFA needed that retarded monkey, so did PRIDE (who had Fedor), and every other MMA org that has come and gone.

That’s why I’m thinking that the real financial backing is coming from something, let’s say, extra-legal. If Sibling is as small potatoes as they seem, the cash has gotta be coming from somewhere. And they’re gonna need a lot of it.

“…The guy also did business in the VSE (Vancouver Stock Exchange). To a Vancouverite like myself, that’s big, honking red flag. Just google “vancouver stock exchange+corruption” and see what you get. At one time in the 90s, it was considered the most corrupt stock exchange in the world….”

You weren’t lying. I found this, kind of funny…..

What the hell is going on here? The resource market sucks, the V.S.E. and almost all of the members are losing money and that idiot President of the exchange lays down a policy that downright smells of an under the table business deal. This policy must be stopped NOW, before theVancouver Stock Exchange becomes the laughing stock of the universe, they are already looked upon with dismay and disbelief throught the business world. The time has arrived for the Directors, and Shareholders of all V.S.E. listed Companies to spearhead an all out assault of this proposed onerous policy . We must organize and send this SLEAZEBAG President of the V.S.E. packing back to the craphole he crawled out of. ….”

I say, M-1 Global is a scam, or at least it is looking more and more to be that way.

Kudos to fightlinker for being the only one sniffing around this dirty combo of russian/american shit called M-1 Global.

  • Accomando says:

“…That’s why I’m thinking that the real financial backing is coming from something, let’s say, extra-legal….”

American “shell-company” mainly funded by the Russian mob?

I know the Russian mob has billions upon billions of dollars and they are all over the United States, in every Major city. They are all around Chicago, and they specialize in every form of crime known to man, internet scams, home robberies, anything illegal that they can make money off of, they do, they are that smart and adaptable.

Anyway you cut it, the influx of M-1 Global is going to be a disaster for MMA and its fans.

  • LR says:

Being in the Chicagoland and I believe you are here in IL too Accomando, I can definitely say they have a foothold here, although not nearly as huge as it used to be.

Heh, imagine if it is a Russian crime syndicate backed MMA promotion that has simply helped promote this thing, then later they threaten Fedor and he takes a god damn dive or some shit. Ugh, the theories are endless. Welcome to Diggstown, lol.

  • Mobb Deep says:

You know what the funniest part about this is. That the UFC owns PRIDE’s library and therefore Fedor’s fights. How in the hell can they market this guy, with RINGS footage?

  • LR says:

It depends. Maybe PRIDE gave rights to him as well.

  • LR says:

It’s either that or White’s legs get broken by Salvatore looking mugs speaking Sputnik at his doorstep.

  • rob daniel says:

I’m just glad SEG is getting back into the MMA business. They have to regret selling the UFC in 2000 so now they’ve got their second chance. Heck, more power to them.

That’s a great quote, Acommando. Check this one:
“In 1999, the much-maligned Vancouver Stock Exchange finally collapsed under the burden of its own disgrace. Infamous as a swindler’s
paradise, the VSE’s notoriety for attracting, harbouring and turning a blind eye on shysters and fly-by-nighters – in particular, those in the junior mining sector -was well documented. Even its board of governors conceded diat the 92-year-old institution’s reputation as “the scam capital of the world” (so dubbed by Forbes magazine in 1989) was beyond salvaging. Although other factors came into play – it made economic sense, for example, to combine the relatively small and neighbouring Vancouver and Calgary markets – there remained little hope that the caned, corrupt and corpulent corpse could ever be revived again. People simply didn’t trust it. Moreover, they didn’t want to know about it. They just wanted it to go away.”

Now, I don’t know when, or even if, Baybak was active in the VSE, it’s just that I hadn’t heard/seen anyone even mention the VSE in a long damn time. There’s no real wikipedia entry on it, just how it and the Calgary exchange were merged. It’s at the very least interesting…

  • Accomando says:

    Its out of business, hillarious.

“…Heh, imagine if it is a Russian crime syndicate backed MMA promotion that has simply helped promote this thing, then later they threaten Fedor and he takes a god damn dive or some shit…”

Or he’ll end up at the bottom of a lake in Southern California.

    I could see it.

Mobs are mobs, oligarchs are oligarchs. And if the money came from illegal source, it doesn’t mean that they are not trying to create some legal business.

It did for many years. The problem was this Japanese mentality. Nobody in USA, Europe cared about that shit. And btw the relationship with Yakuzas wasn’t even proven.
