Miguel Torres gets fired (again)

For some inexplicable reason, Miguel Torres has been released by the UFC. Well, to be honest it’s not completely inexplicable. He has gone 3-4 since 2009 and lost two out of his last three fights. And even the wins were pretty terrible – the result of a shitty change in fighting styles that not only didn’t work very well, it actively turned off a large percentage of former Miguel Torres fans.

Still, it was barely a few years ago that Torres was being touted as one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world. He was the most popular guy in the WEC outside of Urijah Faber, and is still one of the best known bantamweights in the world. So with that in mind, why would the UFC let him go? Especially when they’ve been having serious problems putting together fights on PPV cards that the fans are interested in seeing? See: UFC 151.

Even worse, this puts an end to the possibility of another big fight we’ve all been bitching for since 2008: Urijah Faber vs Miguel Torres. Yes, that fight is far past it’s best before date. It would have been epic if we’d gotten to see the two duke it out when they were champs at the top of their weight division. But it’s still a fight that many of us would love to see, and the UFC shrugging and just cutting Torres loose makes me think they’re starting to lose the plot a little.

oh no taco jesus is out again!
Maybe Uriajah will take a shit again and get sent to Bellator with Torres

  • Letibleu says:

Greg Jackson sure got his career back on track.

  • Norm says:

He forgot where he came from. He was once the pride and joy of Carlson Gracie Sr., and now he’s training with Firas in Montreal. Miguel has stated in interviews that winning is the most important thing, and it doesn’t matter if the fans like the way he fights as long as he gets the win. HELLO…. that’s why you lost a lot of your fans. Suck it up and get that Carlson killer instinct back, and maybe your fans will start caring about your fighting again.

Guy just bet up bums. Never liked his bullshit hair or his bullshit fight style.

  • TheButtStrangler says:

Fuck dana and his arbitrary hiring and firing in general,
but Torres was given a second chance and he didn’t make the most of it.

So he should have known what that was gonna get him from dana.

Maybe he should have tried harder to be dana’s twitter buddy.

A few more pictures of himself grinning like an idiot while hugging justin beiber would have helped.
