Magic 8 Ball: Will Rampage and Chael will fight in the UFC? It is decidedly so

To Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Chael Sonnen is everything that is wrong with MMA, and represents the very reason why he’s leaving for the easy million dollar paychecks of boxing. Rampage spoke to Inside MMA recently and was characteristically blunt in his assessment of Sonnen:

“His mouth gets him his fights. The dude is exciting for like two minutes, then you just wanna turn down the volume, like, ‘What the hell you talkin’ about?’ He sounds like he practices his stuff in the mirror, then goes out and says it.”

“He’s a great wrestler. That’s all I’m gonna say cause everything else sucks.”

Never one to back down from a verbal joust, Chael took to Twitter to issue his response:

“If I could understand a single word (Jackson) said about me I might be mildly offended.”

“Hard to hear (Jackson) all the way from the bottom of his pit of obscurity.”

“Ya know (Jackson), I was wrong about your acting ability. Calling me out was your best performance yet.”

Allow me to offer a prediction for the future: Chael and Rampage WILL fight in the UFC.

Jon Jones is going to make Sonnen his cell ho. Chael is going to have to wash Jones’ socks, make his bed, perform unspeakable acts that include either jelly or syrup, and do all the other fun stuff a cell ho gets to enjoy. After that Chael’s still a big name fighter who will need big name opponents.

Rampage will leave the UFC for boxing, or kickboxing, or slapboxing, or whatever fighting endeavor he naively believes will bring him more paper than MMA. But he’ll be back shortly, once he realizes that kickboxers cross over to MMA, not the other way around, for good reason, and that boxing is a completely different sport that may not be too welcoming to a 34 year old cross-over athlete who already has 42 fights to his credit and likes to whine about money.

Jon Jones will still be the champion. Both Rampage and Sonnen will be a little older, a little more worn down, but still name fighters that can draw an audience. The UFC will wisely make this fight because even though by that point neither guy will be in title consideration, it will draw eyeballs. Mark your calendars for late 2013/early 2014.
