What we know right now is that Nate “The F*cking Great” Marquardt will be fighting Yushin Okami at UFC 122, as Vitor Belfort has been pulled from the event. The initial rumor floating around the blogosphere was that Belfort was injured, which sounded likely considering his frail body. But Belfort’s trainer Shawn Tompkins shot that down on Facebook last night:

Great episode of Sons of Anarchy tonight!!!! and yes you will recieve Vitor Belfort news very soon…. All I can tell you as his coach is that he is 100% healthy.. Big day tomorrow at the gym, Hominick and Horodecki are looking great..

Considering that Sons of Anarchy is indeed one of the best shows ever, it would follow that Tompkins is a credible source of information. After all, what better way to judge someone’s character then by the quality of television that they watch? If Tompkins had said “Awesome episode of Glee last night bros!” then I might question his credibility (and his manhood), but that didn’t happen.

There are really only two explanations for this: either Belfort has decided to film another guest spot on a soap opera, or he’s taking Chael Sonnen’s place against Anderson Silva, which is exactly what I suggested the other day. I hope I’m right, because Silva-Belfort and Marquardt-Okami are awesome fights, and because there’s nothing I love more than saying “I told you so.” (Except good whiskey.)

UPDATE: Dana White corroborates Tompkin’s statement via Twitter. The only clearer form of evidence that Silva vs. Belfort is happening would be if Dana wrote “Silva vs. Belfort is happening.”

UPDATE #2: Confirmed from Dana’s Twitter. “Vitor is not injured. He is going to fight anderson for the title and the winner of marquart and okami are next.”

Rumor is Stephen King will have a small part on this season of “SOA”.

  • Reverend Clint says:

i watched the 1st season but couldnt get myself to watch the rest.

  • shawn says:

WHAT!?!? Was the show not badass enough for you? Not well written enough? Not enough violence, or boobs? You confuse me, Clint.

Smith, I read the same thing. Should be awesome.

  • G Funk says:

You can only say “I told you so” if,

    1. If there are naysayers &/or

    2. If it’s something that is completely NOT a no-brainer, which this is not, cause we all know that Dana’s groin loins for this fight.

So shut up. Oh, and welcome back chicken-fucker!

  • Reverend Clint says:

the story line was like a day time drama with bikers and the lead is a fucking aussie with faggot hair.

stephen king huh? guess they finally found someone uglier than Ron Perlman.

Back to MMA… I think someone should actually have a fight at the given weight class before they get a title shot. Even BJ Penn has had mixed results from this kind of misadventure. Watch belfort comes in heavy and/or emaciated.

  • shawn says:

Clint: I hate that argument. Honestly, who cares? The Franklin fight was at 195. So what? Franklin is the former MW champ, likely a future Hall of Famers, and one of the bigger names in the company. Belfort came in and destroyed him. Only reason it wasn’t contested at 185 was because Franklin was in the process of building his muscle up to compete at 205 regularly. And it’s not like Belfort has never fought at 185; his previous two fights against Martin and Lindland were both at MW.

  • Bleach says:

I question the relevance of Belfort. Yes he’s an ass kicker but he hasn’t fought in over a year. I understand he ktfo’d Franklin but previous to that the only “substantial” win he has was Randy Couture @ UFC 46 which was about 6 years ago.

I don’t think he should be the answer to a fucked weight class.

  • frickshun says:

I think we all know the blueprint to beating Andy now……..OTC flu medications.

  • shawn says:

bleach: and the randy win was by cuts, which weren’t even really from him outpunching randy or anything: the corner of his glove sliced grazed randy’s face and sliced him open.

Even so, I think you’re sort of dismissing his career. His three first round KOs when he first entered the UFC were astonishing at the time, hence his nickname of “The Phenom.” While he had a lot of setbacks after that, his domination of Wanderlei at UFC Brazil was insane and his knee to the dome of Marvin Eastman resulted in one of the craziest cuts ever seen in the sport. And while his KO of Lindland is somewhat dismissed now, at the time Lindland was only a short time removed from the MW Top 10.

  • Bleach says:

Shawn: The dominance to which you are referring also happened some time ago. (UFC brazil was 12 years ago and the marvin Eastman was 6 years ago). As for the Lindland fight (insert pause for youtube video research). I won’t bullshit you, I don’t really know anything about Matt Lindland.

Again, I think he’s a great fighter but I think his raping days are over. I am dismissing his “current relevance” not his career.

  • shawn says:

Ah, fair enough. I get it. Definitely a reasonable argument, but the opposite argument is also reasonable based simply off of his victory over Franklin. We’ll see how that shit plays out in January or February when the fight happens.

  • glassjawsh says:

@ frick – just when i was about to shit on you for that fruit nonsense you hit me with this, it’s not as angry as im used to from you but it cracked me up…..

why do i feel like ive said that exact same thing to some unfortunate girl?

  • Jim Harbaugh Scramble says:

I like this Shawn character. More posts from him.

War the Phenom – hopefully he can do what the roid rage chael couldn’t

  • Reverend Clint says:

^he cant wrestle so vitor is fucked

  • Jim Harbaugh Scramble says:

Vitor actually has a good single leg takedown – IIRC he used his wrestling against Yvel and Herring. I think He also layed and prayed his way to a victory in Cage Rage.

Obvs that Anderson is the shit unlike those guys, but I think Vitor has a shot.

He has a good chin, so I don’t think he will get ko’d.

  • Reverend Clint says:

he’s no chael or american wrestling champion but yes he has more ground than say butterbean

  • FiveBoltMain says:

Vitor is going to have one hell of a case of ring rust.

  • frickshun says:

    Jawsh–>staying low key for a bit….
