Dana White likes to consistently point out that the UFC is not yet mainstream. Depending on who you ask, the catalyst that will get the sport recognized as “mainstream” ranges from a UFC network TV deal to a true crossover athlete to an MMA star fathering the children of a porn superstar. Now, out of left field, we might have our savior: comedy genius Kevin James, star of masterpieces like Hitch and Paul Blart: Mall Cop. FilmDrunk breaks it down:
Considering there’s been a shot of Kevin James looking like a regular Tommy Tapout at just about every UFC event I can remember, it’s not surprising that he’s doing an MMA-themed movie. The film doesn’t yet have a title yet, but might I suggest “Round and Pound?” Ouch. It hurt me on the inside to type that. (*sprawl and bawl*). Wait, he also plays a teacher? “The Dean of Mean”, maybe? (*hangs self with Nick Ring’s loose knee ligamenttth*)
I’m kidding, of course. Kevin James starring in an MMA-themed movie will bring the sport into the mainstream the same way that the Nazis helped suppress anti-semitism. Oh well. At least this will give Chuck Liddell something to do with himself as he debates whether to continue his fighting career, become a judge on America’s Got Talent, or eat a ham sandwich.
