Ken Shamrock vs James Toney whaaaa?

Oh man:

MMA pioneer Ken Shamrock (28-15-2) and current International Boxing Association heavyweight champion James Toney (0-1 MMA, 73-6 Boxing) have reportedly agreed to meet in a mixed martial arts contest this fall.

According to the professional boxer’s camp, both the 47-year-old Shamrock and the 42-year-old Toney have both signed on for the contest, though a specific date and location have yet to be announced.

El Paso, Texas, appears to be the leading candidate to host the matchup, which was first reported by

I can only hope Shamrock isn’t the one promoting this fight. He really should be getting straight up paid to drag his legacy through the mud like this. Toney was an MMA punchline before Randy Couture tenderly took him down 5 seconds into their match and submitted him instantly. I can’t wait for all the surreal shit-talking followed by whatever amazing screw-up / controversy unfolds in the cage.

The rumors look legit enough but I’ll be pretty surprised if the fight goes through. It’s fucking sad though.

  • G Funk says:

I would really like to see him fight a MT/KB fighter…

  • DJ ThunderElbows says:

Jab KO in the first – and G funk is so very right.  Shit, I wanna see him against Bones.

  • Redping says:

I don’t see why Toney is specifically asking for these legends with world-renowned ground skills. Why not ask for people with world renowned HANDS if you actually want to compete – bring Chuck out of retirement or something. At least then we’d have some kind of competition. Anyway Ken should destroy him really, because Toney is a ridiculously fat welterweight

  • Symbul says:

It’s actually a tough fight to pick. If Ken weren’t 7000 years old physically I’d pick him by leglock in 5 seconds into R1 but he is fucking decrepit at this point. Not that Toney isn’t a fat fuck boxer who doesn’t belong in an MMA crowd let alone a cage, but he is probably the fresher man physically right now.
